I spoke to Dell again and from what the guy said, it seems they have indeed had problems with the SEC3155 and are now putting the old SEC5557 screen in M1710s. I asked if that included brand new M1710s coming off the production line, and he seemed to think so but wasn't totally sure. I've made a request for a complete system replacement, which he says he has to escalate and will let me know tomorrow. If that doesn't work out, I guess I'm going to have to try to get a refund. I don't know what I would do then - there's no other notebook I want more than the Dell, I just want an M1710 with a decent screen in it.
