It's supposed to be an entire system exchange but so far each time I check the DPS he gave me, it doesn't give any production information at all. I don't see it in the production tracking yet either so I hope it's not delayed due to the 7900 GTX shortage that I've been hearing about. I e-mailed the other rep. about it so hopefully he gets back to me soon. Oh and guess what? This rep. had no problem with me keeping this system in case the new one is broken - only Vincent seemed to be stuck on this issue. The reason I'm so insistent about this is because I've had 3 lemons in a row now (2 E1705's and 1 M1710) and I told Vincent that. The last M1710 I received had a plethora of problems ranging from distorted screens during games to 5-6 dead pixels on the screen. I'm beginning to think that either I have really bad luck lately or the UPS driver likes to play frisbee w/the package before delivering it to me.

No offense. But maybe you could be on Dell's "Hit" list for all those troubles. At least I have the feeling that I am, given my E1705 & even M1210 issues.

Just going to add I have the 3155 and it's a screen that I'll simply say that in terms of quality, I opened it up to one of our IT execs to troubleshoot a connection to work, and his comment was "Geez all you have to do is show people that screen to sell it"... "doesn't matter how much it costs, that screen is incredible".

So I'd say we both agree the 3155 is very good, on this machine at least.

Screw them and their hit list if they have one. They have to provide a product that isn't flawed off the product line as far as I'm concerned. The last M1710 I had was a complete piece of garbage and like I mentioned (and posted pics in another thread) it had distorted screens in games and a screwed up LCD. This M1710 works great so far and the LG screen was beautiful for a week until a few days ago the red stuck pixels + dark tint on the right side of the screen cropped up. I just hope they send me another LG based M1710.

Joker, I understand... I'm going through something similar to you now (though not the Vince incident). Although I hope Dell don't have such a "hit list" policy going on & they shouldn't have, unfortunately I really can't help but think that they do, going by what is happening to me... though I'll have to admit that overall they did produce some pretty good products....

I'll PM you on what I did.

Question for those of you that received exchange systems, when you entered the DPS number into the service call field, did it give you a list of parts immediately or did it take a few days? Mine got initiated yesterday and it still shows this:

Service Call Summary
Description:COLOR PROBLEM
Service Call Number:XXXXXX
Initiation Date:7/21/2006
Last Updated:7/21/2006 8:46:00 AM
Call Status:Not available
Call Type:Not available
Service Ship Date:Not available

There is no shipping information associated with this Service Call at this time.

There is no parts information associated with this service call at this time.

I'm a bit worried about it having no parts information associated with the service call since the last exchange system I received (my current M1710) had M1710 listed as the parts associated with the service call.

I'm not too sure about that... the order for my replacement M1210 that is due to arrive at my home on Monday is set up through Customer Service (I did contact tech support about my issue before CS) & my Service Call status shows nothing but I do have it listed on my order status/history. The parts are also all listed immediately when the order is placed.

Yeah that's why I'm a bit concerned because there's nothing under my order status and last time when they sent me my M1710 it showed up under the order status pretty quick.

Just wanted to pop in and post what dell screen I got with my m1710....

LP0000..... what's that? Oh yeah.... "LG"

I can't comment on the comparison between the sharp and samsung, but i will say this display is gorgeous... it has 2 dark spots in the bottom left and bottom right about the size of a pinky-nail, but i couldn't care less, no light leakage, no dead pixels....

I feel like i won the m1710 lotto

Spanknasty, congrats on your purchase & it's great to hear that you have got a great screen.

Yeah now if i could just figure out why Titan quest AND BF2 will NOT run on my m1710... :.(

BF2 no matter how many times i reinstall it will immediatley give "bf2 encountered an error and needs to close blah blah"

Such a piss off.
That is interesting. I don't have those 2 games but I thought any game will be able to run very well on the M1710 with 7900GTX. Don't worry though, I'm sure you'll get help pretty soon from fellow members. Good luck.

Which drivers are you using? BF2 runs great on my M1710 so far at native resolution. Make sure you have the latest directx installation and run windows update on your system just in case.

Oh and to further my curse, last night my desktop LCD which I've had for a year now all of a sudden decided it wanted to have a stuck red pixel on the left side of the screen about 2" from the center. Seriously, I think the pixel god has it in for me. I need to shake this bad voodoo somehow.

Spank, it probably has to do with what drivers you're running. Primarily the video ones.

I occasionally see posts from people having application troubles that blame the problem on their computer; when, in actuallity if nothing is physically wrong with the computer and all the hardware is functioning properly, it's all software problems and the PC itself has absolutely nothing to do with it.

I would suggest trying a different set of video drivers, making sure you have the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers installed, and that BF2 is updated. Also, possibly reinstalling BF2, but that's not usually the problem.

Also, on-topic, I'm going through a similar situation trying to have my 1705 WUXGA panel swapped for an LG. The reason? Well, anyone that's had or seen the SEC 5557 panel knows...
Hopefully Dell will work with me here, as all I want is a different panel, and thus far I've pretty much given them step by step instructions on how to get it to me.

Here's hoping...

Just received my replacement M1710. The left side is still, very slightly, darker than the middle, but other than that it seems great! I managed to get another LG! W00t!

At least I know it's not really possible to get 100% uniform lighting across the screen, and I feel better now I have two systems to analyse. I did notice the new LG screen is considerably brighter than the old one, and the old one I thought was wonderfully bright already, so this is an even bigger bonus!

So far, so good. I did get a Seagate 100GB 7200rpm instead of the 100GB Hitachi 7200rpm, but my drive ghosted across just fine. Hopefully the Seagate behaves itself (had a few odd noises from the Hitachi so I'm not just swapping drives).

Will update if any other problems occur, but so far, so good.

Grats William, my replacement still hasn't even received an order number yet so I'm thinking it's delayed due to the 7900 GTX shortage I've read about here. The XPS support guy told me it might show up in a few days so we'll see - I already told him I'll email him in case nothing happens.
