First was for my Philips (crappy) drive in my M1210, and now for the "whining" Sony drive in my M1710.

So I called customer support and it literally took them 20min for them to get me to the right XPS support department...(even though I dialed the xps support number that the online chat support gave me) So after reviewing my problem and collecting my personal information (this is at least an hour after I first contacted them) they want to switch me *again* to some specific tech department. So I said ok, but after ~5min of waiting the phone comes up with a busy signal...I don't think I'm gonna go through more trouble just for a dvd drive -_- the philips one *works* but god it's so incredibly loud... maybe i'll just order one myself from a third-party ~_~ Oh and my xps has the seagate drive, it doesn't seem to be loud at all (I can't really hear it unless it's really, really quiet). my friend has a gateway or sony or something, and he has the hitachi travelstar and it was louder than mine.

Shouldn't testing of the drives include reading of major software companies' disks???

I too have requested for different brands of LCDs to see whether it can solve my problem but all 5 replacement LCDs I recieved was the same Samsung model from the same warehouse! Not only that, during one of the replacement request, I was even scolded by the tech support guy for asking for a specific LCD.
Note that I was kind enough not to argue with him & just let him ticked me off!

Interesting. WilliamG, any tips on getting a DVD burner replaced? I tried once but that support tech insisted I obtained replacement software CD-ROMs from EA Sports & Microsoft!

I was like WTF. I mean those software are not the latest & it definitely comes out a lot longer than my drive was released & if the software is newer (release date) than my drive than maybe the CDs used must have been problematic as it can't be tested for compliance with the drive.... Furthermore, are companies like EA Sports or Microsoft small???
