I doubt they've forgotten about it. They'll probably send you notices in the mail with a pre-paid airbill to send it back to them. After that you'll most likely have a bill sent to you and if it's not paid or returned, it goes to collections and your credit is screwed.

I think that your warranty is probably still attached to the old M1710...and won't be attached to the new M1710 until Dell gets the old one back. I guess it's ok to keep both...I just hope you don't have any problems with the new one!

Yeah they eventually gave me a call (after about a month) asking if I'd received the replacement and I told them I had and they would give me a call the next day to arrange for the old one to be collected however that hasn't happened yet (nearly 2 weeks). I'm not going to make any effort to get onto them though as they stuffed me around for ages trying to fix an issue so it's up to them if they want to get the old system back!
I just can't work out whether I want to swap the LCD's over as the old one had the LCD changed 3 times and now has very little light bleed however very low brightness/contrast compared to the new one... decisions decisions..

damn and I thought my keeping the screen was bad... Maybe I should have kept my gen1 for a while..... lmao!

Slightly off topic. The E1705 are starting to ship out with the following screen.

WUXGA+ TrueLife glossy screen:
GH874 - LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, WU, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, SAMSUNG, V2

Think Dell will use them in the M1710 as well??? Anyone seen one of these new Samsung version 2 yet? Wonder how much improvement they have over the previous version....

I'm assuming the Samsung V2 is the only one available for the M1710. The V1 was in the M1710/Gen.2?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Well just got the V2 screen installed. I have to say this is the most beautiful screen I have EVER had... NO leakage... Not even one drop... NO dead pixels... The colors are sharp, crisp, and true. And the blacks are as dark as the pits of hell.

Finally a good screen. I'll even send the other one back this one is so nice...

Glad you like it! LG ftw! No such thing as "no" light leakage. though. Turn the lights out. Hello light leakage!

Nice congrats, seems you've had better luck than me in dealing with Dell. After this M1710 I'm done with Dell.

now that I have had a whole day of use on this new screen, time for an update...
There is a minimal (and i repeat minimal) crosshatch pattern that others were speaking about. I have better than 20/20 vision and it is unnoticable unless I get really close to the screen. I went to notebookreview.com and that really scared me as they have a crosshatch patterned background... lol.

Other than that, still wonderful. The blues are sooooooo rich... The oranges "pop".. I cant wait to show my graphics design instructor today... he is gonna droooooooool.....

and seeing perfection is unattainable, Im just waiting for one of my kids to scratch this thing like my $200 color screen cordless phone....

What did you have before the LG? A Samsung? I don't notice the hatch pattern too much on mine either unless I look really hard for it. There's a bit of light leakage on mine but its not visible during the day at all. LG colors are definitely much nicer than Sharp or Samsung.

Any pinkness at the left hand side? And how about the dark shadow at the top, just under the right hand catch?
Just got my 9400...it has the SEC3155. I had the LG in my M1710 and this one is pretty much the same. I find the colours are more uniform and it's also brighter. The downside is some slight bleeding/patchiness at the top.

I'm keeping it. With Dell it's just something you need to accept (LCD quality) or spend a lot of time doing exchanges.

That must be the version 2 Samsung that you've got! Mind posting some pictures?
Maybe you guys should get an HP with ultra bright view... dual-lamp display.
should make this a poll.

can someone redo it?

I have a LG one, no complaints, perfect. Had mine for around two weeks, UK.

By changing the screen is there any chance that the tech engineer from Dell may scratch or screew up with my lapptop panel lid or something else?
what about the rubbers on the pnale lid that cover the screews, do they put that back like it was before?

The guy who visited me was very careful and didn't damage anything. I have heard of at least one case where a service engineer made a mess of things, though.

The rubber screw covers are easy to put back on - they have a reusable adhesive backing.
