Well most of us are in the phase games while others like myself are saveing up a new labtop.

What are you buying your labtop for? For what kind of tasks.

For me I'm saveing up for a m9700. Planing on going into some video editing (learn how to ect) day to day tasks like word and powerpoint. Cant forget games. Really looking forward to playing games like WOW and battlefied on high settings.Right now I'm on my dell inspiron 600m(horrible labtop) so im really looking forward to my m9700.

I'm getting ready to remodel our house, so we'll be living in only part of the house, then move to the remodelled section to finish the rest... I ordered the m9700 hoping I can live with it for months as my principle rig to save space. I may get one of the Alienware/Dell 24" lcd monitors so I can use that with the m9700, and also use it as our tv to save more space. Combined with the 5.1 speakers that'll plug into the m9700, we should have a pretty nice home theater setup through a laptop! We have an old school Sony tv that's kinda big so getting rid of that would really help.

Then after the remodel, I'll be upgrading or getting a new desktop with Conroe, Windows Vista, and dx10 cards, probably in SLI... It's going to be an expensive year...

Oh, it'll be used for tv, games, forum crawling and browsing/emails.

Mine? I'll use my mALX for World of Warcraft, Doom 3, Bridge Commander (modeling mostly), maybe F.E.A.R. if I get around to buying it. Then my usual movies, music, writing...

I will be doing some video editing, graphics editing, powerpoint, word, excel, outlook, lots of school work, music writing and sound editing, and, hmmm, seems like I am leaving something out... What was it....

Oh yeah, gaming and lots of it!

Now Zelly, don't rain on the parade (don't mind him guys...just take a look at his pic and you can see what his Alienware has done to him ).

You guys are gonna love the m9700 - it's a beast.

My M5500 is used for everything except high-end gaming, I leave that to the desktop only because parts are cheaper. Kinda weird, since my family only has 2 desktop which is used for gaming, while everyone uses laptops for everything else. It seems like computers and the internet is essential for our lives to function now.
By the way cant wait for an AW 15" laptop with the new intel mobile processor and a DirectX10 card. If AW release a laptop with that specs, I'm sold.

Damn that does sound expensive. If you planned out your house as well as your future computer purchases it sounds like you'll be alright ... lol

I'm a licensed civil engineer, and I build houses, so the house remodel won't be all that expensive for me... I'm doing the design and most of the work myself.

Well, if they hope to deliver by the estimated first dates of June 19, they'd need to start building them this week.

I'm not holding my breath though...

The only review I've found is here.

Im about 2 1/2 weeks out till shipping. For me the m9700 is primarily a gaming machine as well as being an entertainment center for video and music.

Being that I sold some parts of my Desktop to help me pay for my
AW system, I'll be gaming on my m9700 as well as doing some Video Editing etc etc...

im sure im gonna buy a DX10 vista AW when it comes out
post #16 of 26
sell it, thats what i will do, I might get a Voodoo PC; they don't use unbranded parts
post #17 of 26
^ everybody uses Clevo. Who told you that? Voodoo, Alienware, vicious pc, vigor gaming, falcon northwest, powernotebooks, discount laptops, and many more use clevos then paint them and put a sticker on them

same with gun, if i have the money ...lol. I think i'll only have money for a new video card when dx 10 comes out. Then i have to buy vista so thats like 400 $ for the video card and like 150 $ for vista. + i'm trying to buy a PS3 but i'll probaly just wait 6 months and theres a ton of 360 games and then theres the wii. Damn, i gotta start robbing banks...lol

I meant internals, not the case.

Exhibit No.1:

AW: 2 x 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MB
VPC: 2 x 1GB Crucial DDR-400LL at DDR400

Exhibit No. 2:

AW: 100GB 7200 RPM SATA with NCQ
VPC: 100GB 7200 RPM PATA by SEAGATE

Exhibit No. 3:

AW: 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 6600
VPC: 256MB Mobility™ Radeon® X1600

I have AW already, the 5500 not the 5550 so it is long in tooth re-GPU. Since I can't even upgrade the gpu (MXM- pfft yea right), i might end up selling it for a VPC envy with the x1600. I know ATI and nVidia comparisons are a little like AMD and intel ones, but I am a gpu Wh*re so :P
On another note, the VPC has AMD 64 making it Vista ready whereas the 5500 i own has only centrino and not even the new 5550 with the dual core is x64.
It is just too damn bad that ATI & nVidia mobile cards aren't sold seperately.

As far as exhibit one, hell, exhibit two; considering what Voodoo is gonna charge you, buy the AW and get Crucial off NewEgg and a Seagate while you are at it.
