First of all I've just found out about this forum a few days ago and I must say this is a great spot to get info (I've been less productive at work recently lol). I've been reading, searching, and bookmarking tons of threads.
Anyways I've been in the market for a Laptop and I can get a really good deal throught a friend for a HP Pavilion dv1000t, but I have a few questions before I pull the trigger. I plan to use the laptop mostly for work, email, net, music, movies and the odd video game if any. I really would like to use the Laptop with my stereo/Home theater system as a mp3 player and DVR (get rid of the VCR).
1) A few questions regarding DVR: I have digital cable not satellite (Shaw cable in Canada) so will DVR still work? The dv1000t does not come with Windows XP Media Center so I guess I need to pick that up and also a HP Express Card Analog TV Tuner to make it work.
2) Picture quality when using TV: I watch some Divx movies on my DVD player but I would like not having to burn to cd/dvds all the time thus I would like to Laptop to play the files. Would I see picture quality drop off from using the Laptop s-video on my TV versus Divx files played on the DVD player?
Thanks for any input!!!
