Wow... That is a RETARDEDLY high price...
yeah seriously. at the top, it says "similar items from other sellers" and I see BETTER i9300's for like 700 dollars. The guy probably just got people he knew to bid on it hoping that someone else would bid on it. Or he's just an idiot.

LOL, thats a great deal.

It's probably bid up because the seller has 0 feedback and is probably a scammer. People often times love doing that. Either that or there's some Nigerian trying to scam the seller.

"Cost $1,918.00 NEW."

lol.

i guess someone really wanted that laptop. lol

I gaurntee no one sent anyone $6000, assuming the high bidder was just the seller proxy bidding. These are just commical, the auctions that agrivate me are the ones with exorbitant shipping costs, soooo many of thoes laptop auctions want $100USD+ for shipping, wtf is that?

It's just a way to avoid some of the REDICULOUS fees ebay charges you. You charge a crapload for shipping, and the item sells for a little less. Usually people add in shipping costs when they decide how much they want to spend, so they spend the same amount either way, but the seller doesn't get screwed over QUITE as bad. It just makes sense

Yea that sucks. I was looking for XPS notebooks the other week and noticed that there were like 30 of them for around $200 buy it now lol. What scammers do is create several user names and make little auctions. They bid on their items (usually private) and get their feedback to about 5. Then they try selling more expensive items like the XPS laptops.

On a side note, my auction was ended last week by a 0 feedback bidder who is no longer a registered user. Wonderful.

Ahhh yes. Heres a perfect example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Dell-X...QQcmdZViewItem
Somehow, this user with 9 feedback is selling like 17 xps m170's. LoL

There are funny ones out there.

Some guy is selling cello cases for $0.01 and $299.99 shipping.

His auction terms state that he accepts refunds for the full purchase price, minus shipping and handling

Taking shiping into consideration when your shoping goes without saying, but having to sift through a dozen auctions to find one with realistic fees is a pain in the ass. S&H isnt meant to cover their ebay fees, its meant to cover S&H, if they're worried about getting hit up on ebay fees they can list the auction at a higher starting price or a reserve, they choose to do the scandalous shipping method because it "tricks" people. To top it off alot of them like to hit you up with some obsurd insurance fee which is "mandatory", so you end up paying $20 insurance on an item that only cost you $40 total (if you bid on it).

You just keep looking at it a different way. I always sell with a fairly high fixed shipping rate. You keep saying you don't want to sift through to find auctions with reasonable fees, but ebay lists the price and shipping right there. Add them together, if it's a good number, buy it!! Raising your reserve price raises your ebay fees too, and as a seller it forces you to sell the item for more just to recoupe some of the rediculous fees ebay charges. Raising the cost of "shipping" lets you sell the item for cheaper, and every party benefits except ebay of course.

Most people use this method, I can count on one hand the nuber of people on ebay that charge the actual shipping costs. It is not done to trick the buyer. If the buyer isn't bright enough to read the shipping price, they have no business even owning a credit card, let alone using ebay

Well I'm in Canada so 90% of the time the price isnt listed on the search page. I dont expect people to ship at cost, I understand they have to drive around, get packaging ect, but charging double or tripple, or in somecases more is rediculous. The only party it benifits is the seller, it still costs the buyer the same total amount. I understand that you want to circumvent the fees levied by ebay for using their service, but dont act like its a righteous thing, besides how much does it actualy save you? like 3% of how ever much you overcharge, unless you only charge a nominal auction price and rediculous shiping (which is against ebay rules) its less change than I give to bums.

I still don't see how the seller benefits more than the buyer though!! How is a seller making money buy overcharging shipping?? Because the shipping is more, the item will sell for less. The only benefit the seller get is he saves a few buck on ebay fees (and yes, you can easily save quite a few dollars each time).

I guess we just disagree here. It just seems like you are probably passing up great deals every time you use ebay because instead of looking at the total cost, you are looking at the high shipping and moving on.

I guess everyone uses ebay differently!! Personally, I think ebay is more of a seller's tool anyway. I never find myself saving much by buying on there in most cases

I always look at the total cost, and in alot of cases people dont check and will bid items up to the same auction price as items with reasonable shiping.

Items with inflated shipping pretty much always sell for as much or more than the same item with normal shiping when everything is totaled, the buyer doesnt benifit anything except a headache keeping tabs on the real price. Adding two numbers isnt a problem (I would hope) but keeping tabs of the costs when you have to consult PM's and keep track of mandatory insurance gauging on half a dozen items is a pain in the ass.

The seller is obviously the only one who gains anything, they cheat ebay out of fees and on occasion gauge ignorant buyers.
