I originally wanted Bluetooth because I wanted to avoid using USB ports. There was a report on Tom's Hardware (and on Anandtech) that attributed high power consuption to an error in Intel's USB port design and/or Microsoft's USB drivers. The temp fix only worked if USB was not in use.
And it's also nice not to have a cordless mouse USB dongle hanging off the computer. Easier to damage.
To the inquiry about the mouse: Have a look at Logitech's V270. Not sure why Microsoft discontinued theirs, but I generally don't like the high wheel friction on MS's mice.
