Corrupt Windows File??

Thread Starter
I have an Acer Aspire 1691 WCli I purchased from Newegg in August of 2005. I was using Internet Explorer the other day when I got the BSOD. So once it booted up again everything seemed ok until it started to load Windows. A window popped up and stated that it could not load the local profile. After the box went away I went about using it again as usual until I got the BSOD again. I booted the laptop again and this time it would not load Windows! I got a message that stated windows\system32\config\system is corrput. I proceeded to do a system restore using the recovery disks provided by Acer. Unfortunately, it couldn't finish the recovery.....halfway through another box showed up stating the corrupted Windows file. I am ready to give up on this laptop.....this is the 2nd time in less than a year that I've run into a major problem.

It could be a bad hard drive....

I probably would have recommended running chkdsk /r before giving up and doing a restore.
