Toshiba Exchanging G15 and F15s due to faulty boards! - Page 6

Thank you for the information! I stopped using my G15 becasue of problems and didn't want to spend any money getting it fixed.

Other than working properly (I hope), what is the difference between the original and replacement motherboard?

According to what I have read, there's an inherent design flaw in the original motherboard so the new one supposedly fix the problem, but some post I've seen have their motherboards change a few times but after few weeks or months the problem comes back.

since the motherboard fix on my F15, I did notice the fan runs more frequently/louder (to keep the board cool). also, I feel the machine is running slower than before. I'm also hesitant to load many more programs at this point.

I plan to add more RAM, and hope this will speed things up a bit

other than that, no problems with mine shutting down or anything

back on 8/22/06 someone posted that the Tech Bulletin was on the Toshiba site. I can't find it. Did anyone else locate this notice?

8/22/06I have a customer with a G15 and a failed motherboard. After reading these post went to Toshiba's site and eventually found a notice (Document #98081905 posted 1/20/06) extending G15 AV501 warranty by 12 months.

Found document by searching qosmio G15

Thanks A440, actually, I was hoping to track that replacement notice down if it referred to anyone replacing the F25s for another model, thought I know it doesn't sound like Toshiba is willing. I had my enhancement done and as soon as it was returned to me, the system board needed replacement again, and to top things off, the repair depot received a replacement system board that was also "shot"! Really, rather have Toshiba allow a replacement instead of sending it for yet another (4th) time...owned for less than a year with very moderate use.

HELP I could use some advice

I have posted on here all my issues with my g15. Quick summary. Have sent it to the Tech Depot twice and also have had onsite come out at least 4 times. Have had a few hard drives replaced, 4 or 5 system boards and other minor repairs. Onsite came out on Wednesday Nov 1st and replaced the hard drive, system cooling unit and fans because it was over heating and shutting down. On Thursday I left the computer running on my kitchen table and left for awhile. I came back home and it was making a loud sqweeling noise and I could smell something burning. I grabbed the laptop to unplug it and the casing where the vent is actually was soft and molded to the shape of my fingers. The computer is fried. I have talked to customer relations and they have finally made a decision on what to do. They want to try to repair it or exchange it out for a new one. They want me to send it in but they won't give me any details as to what model they would exchange it for. I was one of the stupid ones and bought this as soon as it came out and paid 2900.00 for it. I told it could take weeks to get a new one. I even had to call ONSITE REPAIR and get all the records of them coming out because Toshiba couldn't find any such repairs. I have no faith in them and told them this is my bread and butter. I am losing alot of productivity. I told them I will not send it in unless they tell me upfront that they would replace it with. They are going to discuss this among themselves a bit more and call me back this week with my options. I want to actually take it to COMPUSA and exchange it myself so I know what I am getting but they say this isn't an option. I believe they can give COMPUSA the authorty to do so. Anyone know?

Taylor810: Let me know what happens as I may end up in the same predicament. I get my laptop back tomorrow and they had to change out the system board and memory stick as both failed. I wrote to the online store regarding a possible return/exchange and they've ignored my emails.

Can anyone in the UK help please. My Qosmio F10 died last night, all I get on the monitor or external monitor is a black screen with coloured vertical lines on the right hand quarter of the screen. I noticed this post and have today called Toshiba in the UK, the first lady said I would have to pay for a replacement motherboard but then I rung another number in the UK and explained the problem with the laptop (it is out of warranty and only 18 months old, cost £1299 when new) and the posts on this forum. The guy I spoke to gave me a reference number and said someone would call back in 48 hours. Has anyone in the UK had similar problems and have Toshiba fixed the motherboard fault free of charge?

Thanks

Sue

Sue, Keep on Toshiba. They have been giving out extra one year warrenties because of all the design faults. If they don't help you insist on talking to customer relations. The G-15 and the F-15 are LEMONS

I bought a Qosmio F15 AV-201 but am currently living in Brazil. I got the same problem: vertical lines on my LCD screen and sometimes the laptop crashes/turns out. I have turned it to an external display - same problem. Do you know if I could have it fixed here or should I send it to the US again? What do you suggest me to do?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Could anyone send me ASAP the memo titled "Toshiba Return Authorization/Factory Warranty Resolution" ? My e-mail is gmeirelles@gmail.com and my fax is 55 11 5014 6805. Toshiba Brazil asks me any document about this issue as they do not have any information on that!
Thanks,
gspm

my last toshiba EVER !!!!

I sent my Qosmio F15 Av201 back on 12/05/2006 to take part in what they told me was their "system board enhancement program" despite the fact that my unit is 6 mos out of warranty. They paid the UPS and told me I would have my unit back within 7 days. I tracked it online and the Notebook Depot got it on 12/07/2006 and sent it to their "Power Cord, AC Adapters" department that same day and that is where it sat. I called Toshiba on 12/14/2006 to find out why there is no repair update since 12/07/2006 and the customer service person told me that the repair depot is still diagnosing the problem. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he told me that the supervisor dosn't want to talk to me and offered to transfer me to the repair depot--I got his name and his supervisor's name and the direct dial # 1(866) 411-4212 to the repair depot. Spoke with a nice lady there who seemed to understand that I was led to believe that I would be taking part in a motherboard replacement program for a well known issue with their Qosmios corrupted graphics processor units which they foolishly chose to solder to the motherboard. Also that I was expecting my computer back by now. She agreed to check with the actual repair technicians and agreed to send me an email update which she never did. It is now 12/18/2006 and there was finally an update on the depot repair web site "diag- display problem"------I am so unhappy with them right now but what can I do. I sold my Dell Latitude in order to buy the Qosmio and the person who bought my Dell has been kind enough to loan it to me until Toshiba sends my Qosmio back to me.

If Toshiba is going to get away with charging what they do for the Qosmio line of notebooks they really should be forced to start using upgradeable Modular MXM PCI Express Video Cards .

I feel a bit bad because the service I have had from Toshiba has been nothing but excellent. As I mentioned in my first post, I wrote to Toshiba in Singapore to complain about what had happened to my laptop. Within 2 weeks of me writing to them, I received a phone call from the Customer Sales Manager for Toshiba UK. My laptop was uplifted and returned to me within 7 days. I'm happy to report my laptop (to date) is back to normal and I haven't experienced any problems with it.

What concerns me though, is the amount of people who have also had problems with the video card, which I have learnt from a friend that it's soldered on to the motherboard. Has Toshiba realised this is a generic problem with the Qosmio laptops?

I hope everyone's problems with the laptops eventually get resolved. Kind regards Tayberry

Thats the last I have heard. Several phone calls have resulted in nothing. I sent mine for the "System board enhancement program" I was told originaly that I should have it back within a week. They have had it a week. My phone calls, and this issue began on Nov 23. I used my machine for work, and have been forced to buy another for use for now. Want to guess which one im going to keep?
