Thanks Rich for the document. So far Corporate got wind of what was going on and told me they'd exchange the unit. That meant they were going to give me another G15. NO WAY! It's a lemon and unreliable at best. They say it'll take a week to get the entire cycle completed and will issue me the paperwork and instructions. We'll see how this goes if this is another stall tactic or what.

Jeez, today Toshiba's execs exceeded their usual moronic behavior by telling me the reason for their inability to process my order was because it was past 5pm Pacific Time. I informed the exec that I live in Los Angeles and the time was 3:11 pm.

These people can't even tell time correctly and we expect them to manufacture and manage a major corporation?

I expect to go there to their headquarters next week and find a bunch of people standing around wearing those t-shirts with 'Henchman 1" and "Henchman 2" silkscreened on them.

These people make those old Batman tv show villains look like rocket scientists.

FYI, I am on my second motherboard and processor in 9 months. Both were installed by Toshiba, but the PC is not running right (slow). Toshiba indicates they wll not warrant the second motherboard and processor. I have contacted Toshiba regarding an exchange of the Qosmio for something comparable, but works, but have no reply yet. Don't count on yours lasting.

I thought I would post an update on my situation.

While on vacation I received a call from Best Buy saying they were going to exchange my computer with 'like technology'. Before going up to BB I decided to call Toshiba. Talked to a tech and explained my situation. Asked about what Toshiba had that was comparable. He said I should talk to a sales rep. So I did. The rep told me that XP was basically obsolete for any new retail computers on the market. I asked him if and when Toshiba would be out with a Qosmio with Vista. He told me to call back on April 1 and he should be able to give me an actual release date. They were shooting for mid April

I then went to BB. Explained that I wanted a Qosmio preferrably but the utmost importance as far as technology was the integrated TV Tuner. (As it seems manufacturers like HP use the external tuners so you can change from unit to unit.) I really loved my Qosmio and told BB that is what I would prefer. I explained that I had talked to Toshiba and that the newer units would not be out until mid April at earliest. They said no problem and noted it on my paperwork. Told me I could hang on to the lonaer as long as possbile, also noted this on paperwork.

So it appears I will be getting the latest and greatest Qosmio, when it comes out. Which is excellent by BB and Toshiba. Considering the circumstances this is the way it should be. Best Buy was very nice in saying, this was not my fault and I should have as little problems as possbile considering the circumstances. They are going to also recover my old HD and upload it to my new computer. (I will pay for this service). In addition they will credit me with the unused portion of my PSP.

I will let ya'll know when I get my new Qosmio! I think it will be the G35-AV670. There is so little info out there on them. The only thing I have found is that it will be just like the G35-AV660 but will have 2.0 GHZ processor, 240G dual HDD (120 X2), 2 G RAM, HD-DVD Writer. If anyone else has anymore info on this, I would greatly appreciate knowing.

I wonder how Rich's new G35 is doing. Afterall he is the one that started this discussion.

Also if anyone has an update to their situation, it would be interesting to hear everyone's stories.

One happy little frog here..so far. RIBITZ

Ribitz: I've had the new G35 for approximately 10 months so far and it has run perfectly. Not one single issue! I really liked the G15, but the G35 has been outstanding. I am really happy to hear that Best Buy is taking care of your situation. It looks like you will be ahead of all of us if they come through with a Vista G35. (I have not yet had the courage to attempt the upgrade since eveything has been running so smooth!) I'm so glad my situation has been able to help so many people with this problem! Rich

Hey guys, I just found this posting when looking for prices to replace the motherboard on my Qosmio F15... I do not presently live in United States but computer was purchased there over a year ago, I have not had a computer for 6 months now because repair is so expensive and now I'm finding out the computer went bad because of the problems with motherboards... somehow that is good news for me, but how do I go for exchanging or repairing my computer with Toshiba? I will go back to the States in June, will it be to late to call Toshiba then? What number should I call?
Thanks a lot to whoever respond to my questions, I know they are a lot but I'm desperate without a computer, I'm studying overseas and cannot afford to pay over $1,000.00 to fix this problem I'm having.

Greetings!

Hey all,

It's been awhile since I've been around here, but I wanted to share something with you. After MUCH bickering with service reps, I called Toshiba's corporate offices. Their number is (949) 583-3000. I spoke with Pam Saunders, and she directed me to someone under herself. After a fair amount of "pleading" (a.k.a. me telling the guy how fed up I was about the issues I had been having with my G15), he eventually offered me a deal: a partial refund in the form of credit at ToshibaDirect.com. Now, I can't tell you exactly how much I got, but I did receive about 2/3 of the price I paid for the laptop (which was around $2500, you do the math ), which got me a pretty decent laptop (P100-ST9012) from their site.

Keep in mind that I did call their corporate offices a few times before, and I stressed my extensive repair record (2 hard drive replacements, 2 mobo replacements, dvd-rw drive replacement, lcd replacement) and I made sure to thank the guy helping me several times. Do remember that these people deal with angry customers all the time, so if you are nice to them, they will usually try to go out of their way to help you.

Best of luck to all of you!

Toshiba have just told me that now I'm too late for the System Board "upgrade" to be free. Yes it was a problem and no they didn't tell anybody, but if I didn't call in by March 24, then I am too late and they will charge for the "upgrade".

This will be the second system board in the computer.
Out of the box the right Harman Kardon speaker was toast, but they won't fix it.
Then within the first year I got the green lines video failure. Had to send it to Toshiba depot 3000 miles away, and it took 3 weeks. They failed to fix the speaker even though they said they would.
Then the power cord failed as others reported, lots of sparks. I just fixed it myself.
Then a hard drive failure - replace myself as these are easy.
Now the VGA output died. And I need it for projector for training classes. They say this is part of the system board upgrade that was free but will now cost me becuase I didn't report it in time.
This is a G10 in Canada

Also should mention that Toshiba Customer Support says there is no record of the first system board replacement in their system.

Be persistant with them. I have learned that their record keeping SUCKS hard, especially regarding repair history. Try calling their corporate offices (I'm not sure if they've got one for Canada).

I had the qualty ugrade done to my computer and now my cooling fans run full blast and loud all the time. It was not like that before the upgrade and it is very annoying. I paid a lot of money for a quiet computer. I am really upset because tohiba claims that this is normal for the upgrade. Any one else have a similar problem and any ideas on how to solve my problem. thanks

I have the same problem, plus 10 lines on the screen, slow as hell, and I am on my third hard drive.

The guy I spoke to gave me a reference number and said someone would call back in 48 hours. Has anyone in the UK had similar problems and have Toshiba fixed the motherboard fault free of charge? Thanks Sue
I have just read your posting our dilemas are identical even down to what we paid for our now useless laptops, it seems the F10 is now discontinued ...i wonder why? could you please tell me if you managed to get a repair / replacement as i have just wrote to laptops Direct where i bought it from asking them to contact Toshiba to find out what they intend to do about it ... although it seems the F10, F15, G10, and G15 all have the same known graphics / motherboard problem , something tells me i am going to have a battle on my hands.

It is interesting to read of the woes of G15 owners around the world.

I live in AU and SNG. Purchased a G15 about 2 years ago and a month after the warranty expired ... so did the motherboard. The lines across the screen appeared first, and then the machine just wouldn't boot..... nothing.

So the saga began. Took the machine back to the retailer (Singapore) and got no sympathy and a blank stare. To fix the board would cost about $1,500. So the machine eventually got sent off to Toshiba's repair agent in Singapore where it has been ever since. The bill is now up to $3,500 (SGD) about 2000 US, being the cost to replace the board and the screen, and I was on the verge of actually paying them. Then I found out about all the other G15 owners out there that have had the same problem.

At no point in time did either the retailer, the repairer or the manufacturer tell me anything of the track record of these machines. The repairer made no reference to an extended warranty offered to owners.

The result is a letter to the repairer, copied to the local Toshiba manager and the retailer. I have not had a reply to date but look forward to being treated as a loyal Toshiba customer rather than a sucker with a credit card.
