techcec,
I have the same laptop as you have. However, there is no problem with my laptop yet. Can you provide the model # of your board? Did they also change the CPU?

new qosmio mother board

The CPU is the same,,,but the new mother board has a new chip set. It is the NVIDIA Geforce Go 6600.
I think the old board chip set is the Nvidia Geforce 5700.
I hope this help you.

Try running BelarcAdvisor, it should give you the model number of your motherboard etc. Lot of good info produced

Hello I too loved my Qosmio. I took my time and researched it and in Feb of 2006 I brought my Qosmio F45-AV with the nice white keys and big screen. I was so proud of it and started taking online classes so I spent a good amount for it. It started when my battery wouldnt last more then a half hour without needing to be plugged in. Then it froze 2x and I needed to use my system disks to reboot. I was typing one day and the computer just said "poof" ( like one of those old t.v.'s) when we had the ones with the tubes in it. I took it to a local computer store to have them diagnose (for $150) that I need a new motherboard. This computer was my baby I didn't let the kids log on or my husband fool around with it. I am sooo ticked oFF to find out there was a recall because I brought mine from circuit city which is now out of business. Can someone be so kind to fax me this letter? I too want to try to get them to cover some of the magnanimous cost. I really loved that computer. I am sitting on my husbands computer which I didn't even pay 1/3 of what I paid for my QOSMIO and his computer is working, HA! My fax info is Sarina J. at 718 626-0209. Thanks

I had to register just to make this post. I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who has posted in this thread. My father handed me his G15 while I was at his house during the holidays. He said that if I could figure out how to fix it, it was mine. Knowing my father and his way with computers, I figured there wasn't anything serious wrong with the laptop. I brought it home and turned it on and all that came on the screen were vertical lines and strange patterns. I jumped on the internet and the only site that had any info was this one. I read through all 16 pages and figured I would give it a shot.

The laptop was purchased Jan 2005, so there was no warranty. I just got off the phone with customer service (January 7, 2010) and they are sending me a prepaid box so I can send the laptop back to them for the mainboard replacement. YAY! I was really nice to the guy and just told him that I wanted to see if my laptop was eligible for the System Board Replacement Program due to the defective graphic chip. The guy on the phone didn't know what I was talking about but he put me on hold after getting the Part # and he came back in about 5 minutes with the good news that they will fix my laptop.

So, because of this amazing forum, I will now have a newly updated laptop that was pretty much free - for me at least. Thanks again! (...I can't wait to let my Dad know...lol)

SAME HORIZONTAL LINE PROBLEM WITH MY QOSMIO G10 PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY OF 2005. CALLED TOSHIBA CANADA AND WAS TOLD I QUALIFY AND TO BRING MY COMPUTER TO ANY STAPLES OR FUTURESHOP LOCATION TO HAVE IT REPAIRED SO WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS! I WILL KEEP EVERYONE POSTED. THANKYOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS RESPONDED TO THIS THREAD!

4-years old thread, systems as old as 5-years old and still being honored to be fixed by Toshiba ... Something (very) positive to say about this brand!

cheers ...

Yeah hopefully everything goes okay, hope they don't try and say it is my fault! Over the years I have replaced 2 cooling fans and 2 keyboards and upgraded HDDS so I have taken the computer apart to fix these things so I hope that doesn't void the mainboard replacement

Cool, share with us as how it goes for you. Good luck.

OK, I thought I would post an update. I sent my laptop in and they received it on the 14th. Here is the status from the depot site:

Apparently two parts are needed and they are both on back order. Just my luck...lol I called customer service to check to see if they knew when the parts were coming in and they wanted to transfer me to the depot directly but the depot was closed. I hope the parts don't take forever.

I will update again when I have more info.
Looks good Tara. Toshiba has better inventory than some manufacturers that I know off ...

cheers ...

There is no update yet for the back ordered parts on the toshiba depot website. I have called the 800 # like 7 times over the last couple of weeks trying to get the phone number of the repair depot in Kentucky and they refuse to give it to me. I am transferred to the repair depot but everytime the call connects I get the fast busy signal instead of a ring.

I am going to try one more time today to get in touch with the depot and if I cannot I suppose my only option is to call the corporate office in Irvine to try to get some information.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?
You are not too far from Irvine, aren't you?

Give them a bit more time Tara. Few months in the repair depot is not unheard of, hopefully yours will go faster.

cheers ...
Nope, not far from Irvine at all. I could prob drive there in like 25min. I am ok with them having the laptop for as long as it takes, I just ant to know what the details are. I just hate not knowing when they expect the parts in and all that.

I am really bad when it comes to patience...lol

I found the # for the repair depot in this thread and I have been trying to call all day and I am just on hold waiting for someone to get to me. I wait for about 15 minutes and then give up.
