I could never get through direct to repair peoples. They are always busy and constantly under pressure. Give them just a little tiny bit of your patience

Good news! I received my laptop back yesterday. I was given March 12th as the date the back ordered parts were going to be coming in, so I waited another week and called and left a message with the nice lady who was helping me. She called me back the same day and told me that the parts were coming in the next day or so and that I should have an update in a couple of days. She was right. The parts came in and the laptop was repaired the same day.

It works! It booted up quickly and I was all set. They sent a 2 CD recovery set and a Qosmio player recovery disc (still haven't figured out what good the TV tuner is). The one problem is that the battery will not charge. The laptop only works if it is plugged in, although the indicator light does go green after I have it plugged in for a long time and turned off. But, I can't complain really.

I still can't believe Toshiba took the laptop back and replaced the system board at no cost to me on a five year old laptop. Awesome.

On to my next project - I need to decide on which netbook to buy. =)

Good for you. Its quite possible the battery is dead and will not accept a charge. You would need to buy a new battery

I was afraid of that. Whats a new battery when I got a free laptop right? lol

Before you sent the laptop in, had the battery been charging when the machine was last working. If so, how long was a full charge good for??? Its too bad there wasnt someone else you knew who might own one of these models so you could try their battery just to make sure. Some laptops have a seperate charging circuit within the laptop and that could be gone. Just thinking out loud here. You might gingerly move the d/c plug where it plugs into the laptop to see if there is any movement (like its loose) that too could be a problem with not charging as its not making proper connection

northstar replacment

I've have been on the phone with toshiba 3 times now and they just don't want to admit or just don't know that this program exsists. I'm trying to send them that notice that was posted by SHLaster so they can admit the program exsists (or find the program if they really don't know about it). If they really are holding back then that is a douche move on toshiba's end.

Bummer. You might want to p.m. SHlaster for it, in case the member does not come by here earlier.

cheers ...

Hey can someone send me the memo if I provide an address? I have tried calling 2 different Toshiba #'s (800 & 888) and they both give me the end-around.

I already did the system replacement back then in 06 I think, and even back then after a few weeks or months two vertical lines appeared, and now a yellow one has appeared down the middle.

I have what is now a G15R.
