I was told the same thing when I brought mine in to where I bought it.. It was out of warrenty and they wanted to charge me $800+ for the repair. I eventually phoned up Toshiba directly and told them that a lot of Toshiba laptops were having similar problems, and I thought it was a product defect. They immediately took it in for a free systemboard upgrade.

Perhaps you should just phone up Toshiba and ask them...

I called 1-800-457-7777 and talked to one of their operators. It might be wise to tell them that you've been on forums and whatnot. I'm sure if they believe that you might spread a bad word about Toshiba they'll act faster. Who knows..

Good luck.

Hi Gayle and A440
I can only fax the best buy memo since I do not have a scanner to send the doc by email. If you can post a domestic fax number I can forward the memo. If someone else here has scanned the memo, I would greatly appreciate it if you could forward it to Gayle and A440.
BTW, the best buy memo I have says the problem is with both F15s and G15s. Also, look back in this thread to nhcomputer's message. He tells you how to find a notice on the Toshiba board which states that the warranty on the G15 has been extended for another year. Since I think the problem board is the same for the F15 and the G15, it worth checking that out. Good Luck

There are businesses that will recieve faxes for you - at least in Canada. Most of the office places (Grand and Toy, Office Depot, Staples, etc) will accept faxes, and then you just have to pay 50 cents when you pick them up. Just phone one of them up and ask them for the cost and number to their fax department.

Cheers.

Try signing up for efax. As I understand it, they give you a fax number to have people send you faxes and they basically just email to you. The service is free and global and they also offer other sevices that cost extra.

Those who needs it can send me an e-mail @ rodjun at gmail dot com and I'll
try to forward the one I sent to Luis Felipe... Currently I am out in the wild but

update re my F15-AV201

Good News, I called Toshiba. Explained my issue and advised I was aware of a motherboard enhancement program.

The rep immediately acknowleged this model is eligible. They cover shipping as part of the warranty. Just need to take it to my local UPS store and they do the rest.

so far, so good !!!

I've done the same thing... Only problem is the part is on backorder for an indefinite time. They have no idea when the 'systemboard enhancement' can take place.

John, thanks for the heads up. have they kept your computer all this time while waiting for the part ? I'll call to confirm turnaround time before I ship it to them. at least I can use the computer with another monitor in the meantime...

Yes, they've had my computer the whole time. They originally told me it was going to take about 2-3 days; then 5-7 days; now 'we don't know.' Problem is that I'm moving out the country in about 5 days, so I needed my computer back before then. I've been waiting for a sales rep to phone me back to sort things out, but they have yet to do so. They said they've put a high priority request to their sales department (the support lines useless in my case), so it's a matter of waiting now.

If you're looking to see if they have the part for your comp before you send it, you might want to actually call the toshiba repair depot that will be handling your case. The support centre tells you quite a few things, and very rarely have they been correct in my case.

Phone number for the Depot (in Markham, ON) is 1-888-288-8488...

Cheers.

I have f15-av201. And it won't even turn on, the ac brick is good, the ram is good, the hd is good. I called toshiba and I told them about what I read this board and he offered me a box to ship it out for repairs. The phone call was under 2 minutes....it was the best tech service ever!!! Did anyone have any problems where their Qosmio would not even turn on. The problem happened just after playing Pro Evo soccer.
