How to do BIOS password install satellite 2410?

Since I have no replies on my original post I thought that I would post this question.

When I put in my first BIOS password it was via phone instructions from the Tech at Toshiba Support.

I have had that password on my computer for 3 years and no problems until this warranty depot visit, coincidentally so close to the end of my warranty.

Does anyone know how to install a BIOS password and can give me the steps to do it as now of course Toshiba Support will not talk to me since the notebook is out of warranty and besides that the last time that I spoke to them they were extremely ill informed.
I understand that they are now working out of Manila and I was less than impressed by the quality of information that I got from them. They even had my notebook down as having expired in April and I gave them the System Guard Warranty number and the date of expiry which was May 24,2006 per my copy of the Warranty which I have.

I would appreciate the instructions on how to do this as I recall that it did not take much time to install the password 3 years ago.

I am not asking to update the BIOS, as I know that one would have to take a back up before that.
Besides there is no update for my notebook's BIOS and never has been from the date I bought it.

I sincerely hope that there are members out there who can help.

BTW, Toshiba's Warranty Depot is saying that my main board coincidentally must have given out right after I left their shop and that they charge $75/ hr and the board will cost $250 - $400 to install. They never booted the computer in front of me to have me test the mouse pads, they brought it from the back with Windows already loaded and I never thought to have them boot it in front of me.

Thanking you in advance.
Respectful regards

I read your original post. The story about the MB failing at the same time it was in for service sounds like crap. Once you get into the BIOS, there will be a "hardware" option where you can set the password. I am not sure about your model, but most models can have the password reset by plugging in a hardware device. With the older models, you plug in a parallel plug you can make yourself or buy on eBay for about $10. Newer models without parallel ports need a USB thing that you can find for about $100. The newest models will not work with either type of device. Some models have parallel ports, but need USB keys. I have no knowledge about your particular model.

Here is a guy that sells the hardware devices.

I think his parallel plugs are too expensive. THere are instructions somewhere on the first couple of pages of this forum for making them. If that is not your cup of tea, you can look on eBay for "Toshiba BIOS password" and find some cheaper.

It then sounds to me like this tech, fiddled with my BIOS password so that it rejects my original one and now is saying that the integrated chip on the main board is shot.

Does this tool clear out something that this Tech may have put in there??? This really burns me up when you take something in to be fixed and this happens.

I am submitting a complaint to Toshiba in Markham Ontario regarding this Authorized Dealer as I checked with 2 other Dealers in the City here and they indicated that they automatically give you a copy of the work that they have done and it is not their practice to put in used parts. Which my Mouse Pad is.

Talking to Toshibas Support which is mainly out of Manila now made me feel like this>>>>
It was a total waste of breath and the time I spent spelling my name I could have started a good game of solitaire

Their support is at its worst as far as I am concerned and now I am left to try to fix this thing.

Regards. BTW, how does the Tech get into the notebook without knowing my BIOS password?? I am a Noob as is very evident!

Also the issue that I find really frustrating is that I have had some responses in other forums and they ask for which 2410 model mine is as I do know the US models have different numbers after 2410, however all I know about mine is that the Model # is supposed to be 241C - 2PW9XP which no one understands when I give them the information???? Why is that??

I am really confused by posts where people want to take out a BIOS password and need some kind of tool which is posted earlier in my post by a member; however that is not the nature of my problem.

I had a BIOS password when I took my notebook in for the Warranty repair at a Authroized Dealer and came home and used it for the first time days later and had no BIOS password

When the Tech had me try out my (used) but new mouse pad on my notebook; he had my notebook already booted and let me try out the mouse pad and it worked alright and so I shut the notebook off.

He had no BIOS password nor my personal windows password???

How was my notebook accessed then and could this be why the BIOS password is not working???

Regards.
