I'm in exactly the same boat actually. I needed the laptop by the 23rd so I ordered on the 11th from Gentech and it still says processing on the online tracking thing. Also went with 2 day shipping and now I'm glad I did it so the chances of getting the laptop by then are better.

And in response to the other poster, it looks like they are backordered now, but it seems after ordering on the 11th when it said "In Stock", it went to "In stock but low quantity" and by now the ETA for stock is end of the month according to the website.

ehhh , I don't know what to do now. I guess these notebooks are very popular now. Do you think if I ordered it from another place it would come faster? Or should I just suck it up, order it and wait for gentech?

Yea, when I got the call to confirm the order they didnt say anything about it being out of stock. I would think they would have said something if it was. Hopefully I will have mine by the weekend. My old Dell Inspiron is shot after using it all weekend.

I finally ordered!!! Specs as in sig.

+1 for Gentech.

Wow, Pretty good deal, Im considering the T2400 only because of the new chip thats coming out this year. I could buy it and put it in the S96J and it would work with a bios update. (I think, please correct me if I am wrong)

As soon as I get that straightened out I'll be on my way to ordering, let me know when your ship date is and what not if possible.

Thank you - mem

I'm almost 100% certain that the Merom will work in this notebook.

Also, has anyone ever had any problems ordering from GenTech?

are they ever gonna release them with a matte screen?

There seems to be two different kinds of 667MHZ memory, the (PC2 5300) and (PC2 5400). Is the 5300 one the one that most people get?

If I decide to buy this, it looks like I'm going to build it myself. I'll get the

Barebones from Mwave for $580 (they went up $30 in the last week!)
Mwave 1.83ghz processor for $243.00
Mwave Intel 3945AGM Wireless Lan $28.00
Mwave DVD-RW 65.00

Newegg: Transcend JetRam 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) $78.88 (68.99 with rebate but who ever depends on those)

Newegg: HITACHI Travelstar 5K100 HTS541080G9SA00 (0A26924) 80GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM $94.99

(I'll be checking that memory price and HD price elsewhere).

Total = $1089.87

The bare bones comes with the battery right?
That's only $20 before shipping more than what I could get the Acer 5672 and this has a faster processor and better video card I build my own desktops, hopefully I wouldn't have trouble putting it together.

Warranty, I guess it'll be on parts. Bah. On the other hand, I might prefer that to sending my entire notebook in for repairs.

PC5300 and PC5400 are the same....some companies just round funny.

Barebones does come with a battery....6 cell.

I always do this so I apologize for being a nag, but, even if you don't need it, stepping up to a 100GB drive almost always yields measurably better performance due to aureal density.

And, ya, I prefer send out one broken part rather than boxing up and shipping the entire notebook. Though I haven't had to do any of that.......one of the benefits of hand selecting your components.

Hmm, I'll look at the 100 gig. It's a bigger jump than 60 is to 80 in terms of price, but I'll shop around. Thanks, I think I'd prefer that size anyway. Sure it'll add a little bit but I'm saving quite a bit doing this myself too, I think.

So long as nothing goes wrong

And the HD brackets come with the barebones too?

Yeah it should, you just gotta be careful about the CD/DVD drive, its best to order that from the notebook customization page, because if you get one yourself it might fit sort of lose do to missing brackets.
HD bracket is included (attached to the HD cover). The optical drive brackets may not be....double check if you can, though some say it's not a real big deal.

About the matte screen. The beautiful thing about these VBI notebooks is that you can replace the screen yourself someday if you want. There is a VBI Matrix on the Intel site that lists all officially compatible screens.....I'm not sure if any are matte, but, presumably, as this VBI thing takes off, the Matrix will get bigger. Whoa.
