Vista Install Error

I need some help with my Vista install. It starts copying files and then I get an error and the install quits. It seems to be a very common problem and I've heard now that this beta can't be installed from a DVD burner drive which pretty much screws me over since I only have one optical drive. Could I intstall from Daemon tools or copy the contents of the .iso over to the formatted drive and run setup from there in DOS?

Thanks.

It absolutely can be installed from a DVD burner and has been. It sounds like you have a corrupt copy or burn. Several people I know had this, and burned the download again, and all was well..

Daemon works fine too, as the initial installation within you current version of windows will copy the install files locally. Tis how I did it!

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. It's weird too because I used DVD Decrypter to burn the .iso and then verified the burn after and it said it was good. I did it at 6x instead of 8x as well.

I'll give the install through windows a shot and see how that goes.

I kept downloading copies until I got one that worked, 2nd download worked for me first one was corrupt and quite while copying files.

I just tried the install from Windows using the burnt DVD and I get the same error at 64%. I'm going to try it from Daemon tools to rule out a bad burn and then if that doesn't work, re-download.

I installed Vista on a HDD that had XP on it. Here's the goofey thing:
I booted the vista dvd and got to the patritioning/formating screen.
Deleted the XP partition. The HDD had no partitions.
Created a new partition. Started the install.
At 3%, blue screen. NMI memory parity error. I tried a few more times but received the same error at different %'s of the install. I finally booted with my XP CD and removed the partition with that. Booted with the Vista DVD and it installed. Have no idea what went on.

Well, it's still in Beta so I'm not angry at MS...yet. If this was a final retail build, I would be filling their inbox right now. I'll let you guys know if the install works or not through Daemon tools.

Actually, I kinda impressed with the beta. I was able to install all the drives, even for the 7900. Even I8K works well. I will be testing some games soon. We'll see how it goes.

BTW, I didn't mean I8K is bad or has something wrong with it. I mean the fans have kept on High the whole time. This is one of the reasons I'll be testing the games next. I8K is some awsome work!!!

post if your gaming performance is about the same, so I can go try it out as well.

But if gaming sucks in this beta, i rather not waste my time.
I have found that gaming is much the same..no real loss in performance...I just got Hitman-Blood Money, and it runs sweeeeeet even on my 6800 ...

I too had problems installing..it would install fine from the mounted image in XP...but when I burned it to DVD and booted from it, I got that common error...so I reburned it @ 2x and it worked....

So you mount the iso in XP and install it?
It installs over xp and don't screw things up?

I wouldn't install over XP. I would put it on another partition because it still is Beta software.

About gaming:
I haven't tried any games yet, but I think RAM is going to play a big issue. My XP install is using around 150mb after all the processes are started up and in Vista I'm using around 450mb.

You can do that yes...although as people have said...it might be an idea to create a 2nd partition on your hard drive first. Then mount the image in XP and choose to install it to the 2nd partition...that way you will have a dual boot (you can choose which OS to boot to at startup) that way if XP doesnt run well or you dont like it, you still have XP.

That's exactly what I did. It was time for a format anyway, so I ran the XP install CD, cut my 60gb in two, installed XP on one and got it running. Then installed Vista from XP onto the second partition. It's great so far

too bad my HD is only 60 gb, 35 gb of that went to "backup, program, download" partition.
