Unrelated but id figure for those of you who think Dell Customer care was bad/good here was my run with the dreaded Apple.

Me: Hi
Apple: Hello This is Mike Warner Thank you for calling Apple Customer Care What can I help you with?
Me: Hi I was recently charged tax on my preorder for the iPod mini is there any reason why?
Apple: Lets see... (keyboard tapping) It appears theres an Apple Store in your area
Me: Ahh That explains it ok well then can i go pick it up from the store?
Apple: No. Its going to be shipped to the store and since you have an Engraving set for yours it will ship a week later probabaly the End of Feb.
Me: I see... Well ok so where is it now?
Apple: Hasnt shipped yet.. wait... hmmm... Hold on one second
DEAD SILENCE HOLD 6 Minutes
Apple: It appears weve lost your iPod.
Me: What? How do you lose it before you even ship it to the store?
Apple: Hold on
DEAD SILENCE HOLD 3 Minutes
Apple: What we can do for you is send you another iPod Mini with the next batch since the current batch is sold out
Me: sigh.. which is when?
Apple: Mid-Late March
Me: .....
Apple: Sir?
Me: Your kidding me? I will not accept that since I was supposed to get one in Feb your giving me one in Feb.
Apple: please hold sir
DEAD SILENCE HOLD 8 Minutes
Apple: Hi this is Tim Parker I just got a hold of situation im a supervisor here at customer care.
Me: Great... And your solution for this problem other than the peice of sh*t one I was just givin?
Apple: How about a Refurbed 3G iPod 15GB with Dock, Wired Remote, Carrying Case for in place of the iPod Mini at no extra charge?
Me: Theres no way I can get a mini? (Im bluffing im clearly happy with this new deal even if it is a refurb)
Apple: Not unless your willing to wait for the next batch
Me: Then I suppose I will settle for this one do I get the engraving?
Apple: If you wish I can have it engraved it will add an additional week to this order
Me: Nevermind about the engraving then I think im content with this new offer (SO sooooooo content)
Apple: Ok then ive gone and requested your change you should get an updated invoice.
Me: Ok
Apple: Will there be anything else?
Me: Will i still get my 1 year warrenty since you know its a refurb?
Apple: yess full one year just as if it were new
Me: Ok were done here thank you
Apple: Thank you for calling Apple Customer Care Have a Nice day

So they lost my Mini iPod and some poor fool out there is gonna open a box with the a Silver Mini iPod and the words " Steal Me " will be engraved in the back of it boy is he/she gonna have a ball with customer care

I would be careful with the battery. Unlike other portable MP3 players the IPods are a lot harder to replace the battery. Apple even suggest to just buy a new one.

I have the first generation IPod and the battery is slowly loosing its ability to hold a charge. Battery replacement would set me back 100 bucks

Its easy to do, check out Techtv. They did a replacement on tv took about 1min, got the batt for alot less than 100.
