noise coming from E1705 HD.

I keep hearing this "buzzing" type noise in my E1705. You know the three light that are on the computer, near the bottom right of the monitor, the power light, the middle light (I don't know what thats for), and the battery light...well each time the MIDDLE light blinks, I hear a static/buzzing noise. The noise follows the beat of the middle light - so if it blinks once, the noise comes once. If it blink two times, the noies comes two times. If the light blinks very fast, then the noise happens very fast. The light/noise only happen when I am doing a few things at once. I don't know if you guys know what I mean. When I was updating Steam, the light kept blinking every 1-2 seconds, and the noise kept coming. That is when I noticed it. The Steam update took 15-20 minutes, and the noise came throughout the entire thing. It is NOT happening now as I type this though. I want to know if this is normal or not. I think it is normal, but I just want to make sure. The noise is not continous. It happens every 1-2 seconds, just as the light. The middle light is for the hard drive right? I guess the noise happens when something is accessing the hard drive. I have a 100GB 7200rpm HD. Does this have anything to do with that noise? Can you E1705 owners comment on this. Thanks alot.

I think the middle light is cpu light.

yea well, when the cpu light comes on, the hard drive makes a clicking noise. it happens constantly. it is not LOUD, but it is noticeable as it keeps happening. I just want to know if this is normal or not.

The middle light is the HDD light and what you described is normal. Anytime you do something that accesses the HDD it will cause this light to flicker and yes you will hear the HDD. Some HDD's are noisier than others and if it is loud or gets louder over time you may have a problem. However what you described is normal behaviour and I would not be alarmed.

Would you call it a buzzing sound? I think it's little off normal.

its like a clicking sound. the problem is that it happens so often. is that normal? - that is happens so often. like every 10-15 seconds when i'm surfing the web, and like every 1-2 seconds when i'm downloading something or open programs. it never just completely stops.

During heavy activity like installling applications I could see someone calling it a buzzing sound.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse--like someone else said, some hard drives are noiser than others. I have the same drive (Hitachi brand) and it is not exceptionally quiet or noisey--but I think your situation is perfectly normal. If it gets worse though, it could mean your hard drive is getting ready to die on you.

As always--I would highly recommend you have all your most important "stuff" backed up on an external drive or a DVD.

I got a buzzing when installing games. It was because the Cd drive was spinning so fast. I had the system in the dock and the front was almost touching the desk and made the vibrating bzzing noise. I just gave the front a slight lift and barely heard anything. But the Cd drive is insane when it is reading at full speed on the XPS.

You bring up a good point I didn't consider--I believe the so-called "hard drive light" will blink whenever the is access to any of the internal drives, which would include the CD/DVD drive as well as the hard drive.

could topic creator go here: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread172995.html and see if we have the same problem?

It could be normal. Just remember to back up important files on a regular basis.
