Dual boot Linux/XP from 3rd drive?

I'm currently using WinXP pro with 2 60GB hard drives in RAID 0 on an 8890. I am going to replace the TV tuner card with another hard drive. Is it possible to install Linux on that 3rd drive and use it to dual boot?

Yeah it should be ok. LILO and grub both can boot from any drive/partition. Check the linux forum for more indepth help.

I know you can't set the BIOS to boot from the third disk (someone asked the question before and I thought you could but then did the research and it is not an option in the BIOS ).

Using GRUB/LILO makes sense because the system is still effectively booting from the boot sector of the RAID array then branching off to the third disk.

Let us know how you get on. I would be interested in the outcome of this too.

I installed the 3rd drive, partitioned it for Linux with PartitionMagic, and installed SUSE Linux 9.0. GRUB worked great for dual booting. I did have to change the jumper on the new drive to keep it from hanging up on the reboot.

I assume you mean setting the jumpers to cable select mode?

I'm assuming that's what the new jumper setting was but there was no documentation with the drive and there were no labels on the drive indicating the jumper settings.

Last time i had to deal with a linux dual boot, all i did was set linux up with a boot disk and it worked fine, though that was with an older version Suse Linux.
