Need Laptop buying help

You can see in signature of what I have already. Im going to sell this and get something lighter...perferable in the 6ILbs range. A semi decent video card. Doesn't have to be a 7900 GT or whatever it is on the high end. I think I am looking for more of a compromise. Something that can still game...maybe not as powerful as what I have but better then say the old MR9700 since im familar with those and I know how they preform.

It has to be moble..and something I can sit on my lap. Cannot do that with the 9880 that I have..5 fans and heat your looking at roasting your legs and frying the notebook. If possibe, something that is 64bit compatable but it isn't neccessary since gaming is only a now and then thing on the laptop. I mostly just want the capability if I ever want to game.

I perfer glossy screens, but this isn't a must. I'd take 17 inch only if it meets the weight requirement.. other wise i'd have to say 15-15.4 but I perfer wide screen but its not a must. What is a must..it has to run cool! I perfer a resolution high then wxga but I will consider this if the price is right.

Battery, im hoping for 3+ hours on battery..and something I can use on the car lighter without blowing up my car battery or the light socket

Which brings me to price. Since im selling this one to buy it my budget is under 1500..

Thanks for the help in advance

Does the dell run cool sitting on your lap? This doesn't have to be while gaming..but for like general surfing chating..i'd like it cool on my lap..

I'd say stay away from Dell. Bad quality and support.

I think the Asus Wj3 would be a good choice. 14" screen a Radeon x1600 video card, and a Core Duo processor. You'll get Asus' unbeatable quality too

hmm... sure ppl can argue about their qualtiy, but nah their support i beleiv is extremely good, i have emaield them a few times bout problems, and they emaield me back with the solution, and also call me abck via phone eveyr time. they are very good

Dell's support is great if you know what you are doing.

i cannot understand this, how come ppl say dell quality is so bad and thier are the wrost and all that blah blah blah, but why are they the umber 1 company hey?
They're the number 1 company because the computer layman doesnt even know they have options other than Dell, Sony, Gateway, and HP/Compaq and they get so tempted by Dells super low prices.

Playanything, I notice you're from Australia, maybe support is different down there. znk0r, I dont know where you're from, sorry I cant help you figure it out, lol. But any time when I or any of my friends here in america try to call dell tech support we get connected to someone who can barely speak english (no offence to anyone) and they cant even help with the problem as they barely seem to know what I'm talking about when I say "The RAM is bad" or "the motherboard died". Another friend has a 3 year warranty on his, they're not honoring that warranty and something is very wrong with his motherboard (Hes had this notebook for just over a year). Yet another friend has had numerous small problems with his notebook that keep popping up over and over even if they're fixed. Another friend's screen died and it took about a month to get it fixed, and the english speaking tech support that he delt with was arrogant and had an attitude with him.

On top of this, any Dell my friends or I touch we feel like we could break in half with no effort.

No offence to any Dell owners but this is not a company that I'd buy from again after experiences like that!

Edit: Now lets get back to the topic at hand If anyone would like to comment on what I've posted here, feel free to PM me. But please lets keep it civil

Well if you read in the dell forum is that the trick with dell is to call back until you get satisfaction. And most of these ppl get compensation for the hassel. Verry rarely does a story not finish with the ppl getting something really great. And what dell notebooks are you talking about?

*laughs* You guys :P

Thanks for the suggestion Twilight i'll see if I can find reviews on it.. I can settle for smaller screen..I think 14 is about as low as i'd go and thats really pushing it.. I do like the video card in it..

anyone else?

Plaything what graphic's solution is in yours. And where are the exhaust and intake fans located? I dont mind using a phone book on my lap if its a little to warm..right now i mostly want the smaller over all weight and foot print..
