Hello all,
I've been lurking here for quite awhile but never actually posted and have found this to be one of the best sources for info on Dell stuff so I figured I'd put this out. About a year ago I bought a 9300 (Truelife screen, 1.7 Ghz PM, 6800 Go) and had been nothing but happy with it. So, about two months ago I noticed that one of the channels in my headphones wasn't working. Known problem, loose headphone jack, unfortunately requires a motherboard replacement. So, I could have just bought a cheap sound card, I could have just resoldered the stupid thing, but I figured, hey, I paid for a warranty so I might as well send it in and get it fixed. Anyway, I chatted with Dell, received the empty box and mailed the thing in. They returned it to the wrong address and I finally trcked it down. Annoying but it happens. So, got it home, it doesn't work. Power light for 5 secs, then nothing. Sigh. Spent the requisite(?) hour and a half with tech support (very nice btw) disassembling the thing to make sure that it is the motherboard. So, I just mailed it back in today with the assurance that it will be fixed this time. Problem is, my warranty runs out in two days and while Dell tech assured me that they would keep reparing it until it actually works and I don't think I should have to renew, I also don't want to get in a situation where I'm stuck with a giant paperwight. I'm certainly not looking for anything special, just want my computer back. So would it be wise to just renew the warranty? Any experience with this?
