CAN I USE 533mhz RAM IN MY M1710

Thread Starter
I recently udgrade from m170 to m1710 I have 2gb ram from the old m170 I was wondering if I can use it with my new m1710. Is there a performance difference using 533mhz rather than 667mhz. I read somewhere that the laptop will run more efficiently when the fsb of the processor matches the fsb of the ram is this true?

I also upgraded and did a Sisoft Sandra benchmark and ran Super Pi before and adter changing to 533 ram. The difference isnt even worth mentioning. The 633 ram runs slower timing, so I thing the faster timings of the 533 ram makes up the difference. May machine is definatly a lot quicker than my XPS2 was.

533 ram is easily accessible locally, and cheaper.

Should I just go buy the 533 ram instead of waiting for 667?
Also, the ram manufactors have been telling me dell machines are so picky on ram specs, which they recommend me to buy the tested ones which are more expensive.
I thought all 1.8V CL 5-5-5-15 200 pin sodimm should all work, but many people tell me laptop is different, they have to be "compatible???".

It all works fine. I am running Corsair myself. The only RAM I have heard issues with so far is Patriot, and even that seems like it may have just been a bad batch of RAM

I find that in 3dmark it makes a bit of a difference; as I got just as good scores with 1GB of 667 as I did with 2GB of 533, but in real life application 667 and 533 won't make a difference with Core Duo processors. Once Core 2 Duo comes out, with 64 bit enabled, we could notice a bit of a difference; but until then, I'll stick with my cheaper 533 sticks.

No, I'm just saying you don't need a specific brand. But yeah, alot of people run 533 in their systems, it works fine
