Who fried his/her 7800 GTX?

Thread Starter
I am hearing more and more stories of people frying their 7800 GTX after months of using it overclocked?

How long have you had yours overclocked? At which speeds? Is it still good?

i havent fried my 7800gtx, but i fried my 6800ultra and my mobo. i had it clocked @ 515/1300 for about 4 months, but it started rebooting all the time, so i got dell to send a replacement. while trying to put it back to stock it fried, and then 3 more replacements fried at stock before they replaced my mobo.

I've always wondered what the effets of OC'n would be....

timmy the video card frier
That's a lot of fried video cards. Too bad they didn't give you a XPS 1710 because I would consider it a lemon if I didn't know that you overclocked your video cards.

That's a lot of fired cards. Maybe you should stop over-clocking them.

i only oced the original. after that whenever i installed new drivers the card would fry ...so they replaced the mobo and it didnt happen again. then my hdd went out 2 times, and another mobo, and ram. so i demanded a replacement and they didnt hesitate at all. so i got a m170 cuz they were still making them at the time. then i bought a 7800gtx and just swaped the two cards when the replacement came.

Sounds like you just had some bad luck. Hopefully everything worked out for you.

Yeah, that sounds like a terrible hassle

Wow, I didn't think there was anybody else on these boards who had as many problems as I have.

I should also add that I've never fried a card, but the 7800go I got in my 9400 ran even hotter than most of them and it artifacted at the desktop without OCing, so I had to send it back.

Do you suppose the actual OCing damages the card? I thought it would be due to heat stressing the components, so reasonable temps = safe card, any truth to this concept?

like i said, i ran @ 515/1300 for 4 months and it was always getting to 95c+. i think that plays a major factor.
