Ive been to a few forums before but the reputation thing is new to me.

Just a way to show people that you've been helping around, giving good information, and contributing to the forum. If other members like what you have to say.. then they can give you a positive rep. If not, then they can give you negative rep. There's also the Off Topic section where others just have fun with the rep system with the Rep Hitlist and Boosting threads. They rep each other to see how the different sayings, when you hover over your rep, change as you get higher reps. I never go to those threads, so maybe someone who does can give you more info on how each individual rep boosting threads work. Or you can visit OT and see for yourself.

OK I see. I just ruined your reputation. Haha just kidding!

And remember that the reputation you give is related to your own: if you are still green you won't even touch someone with a full blue bar. So, even if you wanted to do that....

About what ledzapp14 said, it's one of the reasons I don't pay too much attention to reputation. Before, the only thing that worked + or - was the red, but even now there are some people experiencing how much red you can take...

Which is why I turned mine off. I'm helpful to no end, yet I make one negative remark about Dell and my reputation goes to the shitter. Reputation is pointless when egos can easily abuse it.

Yeah... I wouldn't bother about it... it's more or less like someone talking bad to you about someone else: you can't really trust on it. The most you can do is stay alert and see by your own eyes, but never trust on it.

Anyway, just something that happened to me recently: I always had small reputation, like 3 dark green dots (mostly for my "noob guide")... until recently, when I posted a joke, nothing bad. It was _probably_ that person to whom the joke was directed, but I don't know and don't care.

Then, probably the same person (there is no way to tell) rated me four times with bad rep. and then I was full red ("officialy hoffed"). I didn't give a s**t, if you allow me that. And then, there is nothing like others helping you. Look at the picture:

I say: Just do what you think is right. Forget the rest.

I wonder who gave DDDa that many reps

and dangler, the thing about rep in these forums, is that you hit for about 0.5% of your total rep, and there is no cap in how much rep one can give. This is really hard for those starting out, you have 10 points right now. I have about 300 million. The top guys have reached the forum cap at about 2.1 billion. So after a while it's pretty insane

in the beginning, shaun, the programmer for nbf hacked the rep system and added different colors and labels to the rep levels. so the rep experiment thread was started just to boost each other up to the next level to see what the color would be and what the title would be. soon bastardized versions of the rep experiment thread were born *cough* the reppoint hitlist *cough* . those went by strict rules about exchanging rep and if you broke the rules you were out. other threads sprang up to exchange rep. for example, the dellies were constantly fueding w/ the alienware peeps so the dellies could repair their alienware damaged rep and vice versa. the rep threads, at least in ot, have become analogous to "Cheers" where you go and everybody knows your name. in other words just a hangout.

rep has hit the maximum limit, as was stated above and we can go no higher (something to do w/ 32 bit limit (?)).

now you know more than you ever wanted to about teh rep.

On the intraweb? Impossible. You should know by now that anybody claiming to be female is actually a fat hairy middle aged guy that lives in his parents' basement.
