Bringing my laptop overseas

Thread Starter
So I'm leaving tomorrow morning at around 9-10am for Croatia. I'll be there 5 weeks unless we detour over to Austria for a while

Anyway I was just wondering what you guys think of it? Is it safe?
I have an AC converter which is meant for everything including things that heat up and it cost about $30+.

Hopefully I am able to find an internet source while there. Otherwise its going to be lonely playing single player non stop

I am also bringing about 20 movies that I burned. A few are DVD backups and a few are just straight AVI burned as data to a cdr. Will they care or anything? And what about the people checking my laptop. Will I have to boot it up or show them anything on it (theres nothing bad lol).

Thanks!

I was wondering the same when I went to US for the first time (and it was in 2003, 9/11 was still "floating around"). They never asked me about anything, or even to boot my computer. I always carried my CDs and DVDs with me. Again, never had a problem. To be honest, airport security was very easy comparing to what I thought before. Today I'm used to those procedures... I only don't like Atlanta's immigration desks, but that's a different story (my passport has a lot of marks from them, but they still think I'm a possible immigrant ).

I don't think you will have any problem... and considering that US agents are supposed to be the most detailed ones, I don't think you will have problems at all.

About the power brick, if you have an universal AC adapter (50-60hz, 110-240v), why would you have a problem (unless Croatia uses some kind of different electricity)?

I brought my laptop to Ireland with me last summer.

It is ok to bring all of that. Just when you go through the security gate you have to take out your notebook and put it in a seperate box thing to go through security. I recommend you bring it on the plane because baggage isnt that gentle.

Dont worry a thing about it. Laptops are nice to have when in a foreign country. In Ireland atleast there were tons of wi-fi areas.

make a list of number of CDs, NOT titles, BEFORE u travel, a copy of ownership (invoice) of the laptop is always helpful - some customs are pricky about this, piracy, u understand, this is a doing of US companies. u might need to just boot up ur laptop, just to be sure that it is a laptop - for security reason. I recommend a fully loaded battery before taking off.

Being a european, this is quite funny. Croatia was one of the first countries to get out of the civil war, and wasnt as badly affected as Bosnia-Herczegovina and Serbia. Croatia has been a favourite summer destination for many of my friends for years, and you should have nothing to worry about.

Well, maybe we europeans did not invent the internet, but please. You should have no worries here either.

Youre going to one of europes hottest summer locations. Think beach and bar.
