I9200 CPU is running slowly

Hey guys, long time no post but I need a little help.

My CPU is running at 1/4 its speed and its making it impossible to play anything on it. I have tried everything that I could think of software wise. I used speedswitch, I used Dell quickset, and powerplay. Nothing is bumping it back up. I contacted Dell Support and they told me to remove the hard drive and then put it back in (not sure how they came up with that) and naturally that did absolutly nothing.

I figured that somehow I had changed something and I figured the only way that I would be able to do that would be to do a complete system restore (nothing really that important on the computer). I went ahead and did it, thinking that it would return my CPU's settings back to what they were and it would run at top speed again but alas, that didnt work.

Can you guys think of anything that I missed? Thanks for all your help

Oh BTW it is still under warrenty, id just rather figure it out myself

Thanks!

What are you using to view the speed? Just by right clicking my computer? If so, that's usually not accurate, so make sure you're using cpu-z or something like that to moniter the speed.

also, what is happening when you try to bump it back up with software?

I was using speedswitch to view the speed, but cpuz shows the same, operating at 598.1MHz (+/- .1). I have a 2GHz PM.

When I try to bump the CPU speed back up with the previously mentioned software nothing happens, at all. No change at all

go into your bios and make sure you have "Speedstep" enabled. Comeback here if thats not the case.

Check to see if your power management is set up to always on. it sounds simple but i didnt see you mention it.

Could it be downclocking because of heat? Are your fans/heatsinks free of dust?

the pentium M is capable of runnign on high load with pasive cooling so i doubt it.
