Buying memory

I am doing what most people are doing. When I buy my MB or MBP I will downgrade to 512mb when possible and go out and buy 2gb through newegg or such.

I was just curious if someone could explain what memory type I need. Is it okay to just get 1 gb stick and run 1,512mb ram? or are people seeing problems with this.

I got 2x1GB modules from mushkin. Here is the exact model. designed specifically for the MB's.

What vender did you buy it from? How much did that run you?

I am also considering a Macbook but seems one stick says heat spreader-yes and one says heat spreader-no at newegg for Mushkin PC2-5300 memory:

Also what does the timing mean? The above say 5-5-5 but this one says 4-4-4.

Which is fastest and why?

Looks like the lower the better? Then has anyone tried these expensive but very low latency 1 Gig sticks?

CAS latency of 3 and timing = 3-3-3

You are looking at system memory. You need to look at laptop memory.

like this.

Ya like he says. The links you have are to desktop memory, you need to get laptop memory:

Lower timings are better but not a very big difference. I dont think there are many or any laptop chips with heat spreader so I wouldnt worry bout that.
