Costco HP Price Change!

I just thought I’d let everyone know that for some reason the prices on the dv8000t custom systems from Costco have sky rocketed in the last 8 hours or so.

I had configured my system last night and it priced out $1550 last night around 11. About 20 minutes ago I went to buy it, and was going to double check just to make sure it had exactly what I wanted, well the Costco price had jumped to over $2100! Luckily it was still in my cart at the lower price from last night.

For some reason the:
Intel Core Duo processor T2500 upgrade is now $337 up from $65 last night
1 GB SDRAM upgrade is now $219 up from $69 last night
17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen is now $142 up from $42 last night

I checked the prices from HP shop and they appeared to have stayed the same, as have the prices on the preconfigured systems from Costco.

If u go to the Costco configuration screen and hit the update price button before making any changes u see the old lower prices for the options, but even if u select the option while it shows the lower price it updates using the higher price.

I don’t know if this is a temporary issue with the Costco site or a permanent price raise, but if u are looking to get a customized dv8000t from Costco u may be able to phone order it and get the low prices, but it’s not going to happen through the site for now.

WHOA, what the heck is going on?

I hope this is some kind of joke/error.

At those prices the DELL 1705, or something like that is looking better and better.

Configured a dv8000t

Costco =$1,988.99 - $50 instant, $50 mail-in worth of rebates. $1,888.99 total price.

HP = $1,579... -$150 instant, $50 mail-in worth of rebates. $1,379. total price.

BTW, on calling Costco, the sales reps probably go by the prices listed on the website. Hopefully someone has maybe hacked into the site as these prices are way out of line. Either that or HP is planning a big price hike.

I just checked out all the HP and Compaq CTO models on Costco's website and they all reflect the same steep price increases.

I think that Costco may have just been selling too many of the CTO systems and HP is looking to have those orders placed directly with them. That explains why the preconfigured system prices have stayed the same. The preconfigured systems are a screaming deal if u can live with, or want the T2400 processor they are a great deal.

pretty simple solution: don't buy at costco.

Same thing happening with the dv2000 model.

I ordered a dv2000z, with mostly top of the line configuration, for $1,300.99 plus Calif. tax last week.

Same configuration today, $1695.99 plus tax

Quite a jump!

Ummmm... GOOD NEWS

The prices are back down, Prices again cheaper than ordering thru HP direct, and they've added the option to buy the warranty at the same time at the laptop now:

Let's compare: Costco -SIX MONTH no hassle return window. HP .... 21 /30 day return window.. If you order thru HP I'v read you only have a 21 day return window. Addtionally I've read that if you do return something they (HP) bans you.. makes it hard for you to order. (Forgot the exact details... didn't dig too much so I might be wrong, could be 30 days for example....) Personally I like the 6 month return policy offered thru www.Costco.com since HP has been dragging it's feet on getting a hard drive to me.... I feel that they sort of drag their feet, trying to get you beyond the return window... I've been trying to get a hard drive since April, 2006.... It's showing in stock, ETA of 5 days when I talked with a tech about 2 weeks ago... Had him create a "dummy" order to see if they had them since he couldn't pull up any details on the order...
