So ya.. decided to call customer support just because A) Im kind of bored at home right now and B) [strike]I am obsessed[/strike] I wanted to see what was going on with it.

Got Marcus and he said that production hasnt started on the m9700 yet and should start production next week. He also said to expect it for the July ship date.

sigh. Oh well. So they arent just lazy with the phases..

I wouldn’t blame AW so much as I would blame arima. When a ODM is involved, normally, the only thing the vendor does (AW in our case) is slap their logo on the product and sell it to you for a profit.

AW “production” of these machines will involve installing the custom LCD, and loading the OS/other software you purchased.

As soon as AW starts getting these machines in your phases should jump drastically (sometimes phase 3-10 in one day)

I confirmed with AW and my estimated ship date is 7/3 =)

Not exactly true...

AW was involved in the design of this laptop, that is why they're the only manufacturer to sell it in the US.

And according to my info, the base units are made by Arima, the case/power supply/motherboard are in the base platform. From there Alienware installs the processor of your choice, the hard drives of your choice, the memory of your choice, the optical drives of your choice, tv tuner if you ordered it, etc...

If all they did was slap on their label, Arima could make more money selling them direct.

I was just told that they'll be in production next week, and they hope to start shipping before the weekend.

I hope that'll be the case. Though that means I will have to trust my wife to lovingly bring that box in and keep the small demon children, I mean my lovely daughters, away from it!

Im not really blaming AW or anyone at all. I know it is a new system and all and shipping the parts to AW can have delays and all. I just want my computer. I've been without a laptop since february and I finally bought a new laptop that I like alot. Hehe ^_^

I hope it ships before the weekend.

Argh.. this damn bug/virus/idontknowwhatisgoingon.

Interesting, I always thought they recieved parts and assembled it entirely inhouse.

Well, they do. The base platform is one of the parts. I believe the case comes with the mobo installed from the platform manufacturer, but I may be wrong. Everything else they install in Miami.
