Before you answer, please, know what you are talking about, everything isn't so easy as you might think.

Do they need to be running for a regulare Dell Laptop should work? If you don't use the modem (dial-up) or using Windows built-in sharing service?

Have disabled a bunch of stuff and done this and that, after boot only 99mb of ram and 13 process (this includes the Taskmanager) is in use and the computer is faster then ever before, quick quick. I still am using Themes to make Windows a bit prettier though.

I would think you could disable the first one, no problem...

As you pointed out if you don't use the dial up modem you probally don't need them.

Second one pertaining the the logical disk manager may be needed.

How about this.... disable them and see if your machine still works.

Before doing so I think (if memory serves me correctly) you create a hardware profile, so when you boot the computer you can chose between them. This is most of the time used in a "docking", vs a non-docking situation but I think it can be used when you want to screw around with services , test things. You create a 2nd hardware profile, then boot into that, edit to your hearts delight, then if something is screwed up real bad you can always boot to the other profile.
