acer 5672 - how long does your battery last?

Thread Starter
Mine does it for about 2 hours, max 2,5 hours with very dimmed screen and cpu running on the lowest.
Very strange because when I bought it, I thought it lasted for 3 hours... so in 4 months time my battery has lost about half an hour of power...?

Any other experiences?

I'm gonna bring this topic back up because recently i needed to use mine on battery quite often and it's the first time in several years of owning a laptop i became concerned with battery life because i was away from an outlet. With my Merom, and max battery mode, dim screen i was getting a little over 2 hours. I thought this was a bit short, but looking around seems most are in the 2-2.5 range.

Lets see what everyone else is getting...

I was using mine the other day... ePower Management had the Processor set to low... and the screen on about 70%... didn't quite get 2 hours out of it. Maybe 1 hour 40? I'm a bit disappointed in the battery life, but that's my only complain on the laptop. Quite happy with its performance.

While doing internet surfing, I'll get about 2 to 2:15 hours on the battery with settings on "maximum battery life". Looks about average for these.

I've only had this a few months, and I usually have it plugged in. Will doing that shorten the battery life over time, does anyone know?

Same experiences here - usually a little less than 2 hours. I tend to use brighter screen settings, since my eyesight has "accumulated a lot of hours ..."

3 to 3:15 hours on minimal LCD, max battery, and lowest powerplay settings. Oh, and literally everything except the WLAN disabled.
yea, when i am mobile, i got everything disabled except wlan, and cpu on low, but i keep the screen on bright, but i still get almost 3hrs, sucka isn't merom, supposed to give u approx 20% less power consumption? i mean have u felt any kinda boost since u switch out yonah?
me its 2-3 hours while surfing the net.

Easy 3 hours surfing but I always need to force the ATI powerplay settings back down to Optimal Battery life (and 40% bright, cpu low, wifi only)
If you re-formatted you laptop and aren't familiar with KB899179 (oem view only) and KB918005 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918005)

you actually need to install this fix and update manually because you won't get these from microsoft windows update site. The Acer oem install actually already has the 899179 fix applied.

You might only need to install the 918005 update if you reformatted but it is not clear if these two KB articles fix the same problem; there are still two other known usb issues that prevent the cpu from entering lowest sleep states so you -might- expect to see something for those at some point.

Hello people, i want to buy Acer 5672, but I´m afraid of this overheating around touchpad issue (http://www.notebookforums.com/thread162449.html), can you tell me if you have experienced this as well?

I have a similar notebook except for a 7600 Go and I get about 1.25 to 1.5 hours while gaming (everything disabled except sound and screen on 40% brightness, Max Performance Profile in Acer ePower). I get about 2.25-2.5 hours while watching movie (Entertainment profile in Acer ePower). I get about 3.5-4 hours while using the word processing profile (depending on brightness and with LAN enabled).

Other specs of my Aspire 9112WLMi are listed in sig.

Is these an extended battery for the 5672? One that lasts longer than the standard 2-3hrs?

Only thing i've seen is the ones on ebay that claim up to 20-50% greater life than stock, which i find hard to swallow. I didn't look at the specs, but my guess is they are probably the same.

A second battery will set you back about $150 though. I am not away from an outlet enough to warrent such a purchase, but something for you all to think about.

And thanks for the input guys, i just wanted to see how i was stacking up, everything seems about right.

Odd thing for me. I usually get close to 2 hours no matter if im surfing the web or playing WoW.

Well, mine lasted for like 3 hours a month ago.
But I had to bring it to work for a week a couple of weeks ago and had it plugged in all day long.
Now I get 2h30min -2h40min.
That's odd...

Constantly charging a battery does tend to weaken it, also high temps.

I understand why high temps are bad for a battery, not sure how constant charging hurts it too, happened in my old laptop too.

i think lithium battery's are only rated for in actuallity about 500charges, and a full recharge takes 4 hours, as oppose to a 80% which takes only about 1hr..

Your mileage may vary...

I get about 2hours 45minutes on the default settings...more if I reduce the display lighting.

As for charging of lithium ion batteries, the biggest enemy is heat. Keeping the battery charged up unless running cordless would be the least damaging as the battery does not heat up unless under charge or discharge. Unlike the older NiCd or NiMH batteries (less so for the NiMH), you do not need to discharge the battery periodically. There are differences in the cells, depending upon manufacturer. The OEM battery (at least the ones I have seen), are Sanyo, which are high quality cells. Some of the ebay specials have questionable construction and cells, so you may find lower battery life. Also, I have found two different ratings on the 5670's I have seen, either a 4400mAH or a 4800mAH rating (mine is the latter).

Oh yes, for those who feel their track pad is too hot, I have tried the Targus brand cooler (with USB hub). Works well, and keeps the temperature down to under 85F even when using full power (actually, the trackpad area seems to be running about 8 degrees above ambient with the cooler, 10 to 12 w/o).
