well the two go 6800 vanilla's I tested were both detected as single-link cards and did acted as such, so if there is a dual link 6800 vanilla I would like to know which model it is.

I've got a Quadro 1400. Would you like to trade it for the 7900? I want to know if it fits an M70...

Nope, it will not fit.

The description clearly states this is the card for the 9400: CARD (CIRCUIT), GRAPHICS, 256MB, I9400, G71

I highly doubt this card is going to work.

Well I got it, it is only a single heatsync, it seems to be the exact same shape as the 6800 vanilla I have so it looks like it will fit, anyway I am gonna put it in now, brb in 30 min or so to let you know how it went.

Whacky. I have a 7800 vanilla, 7800 gtx, and 7900gs, the gs and vanilla are both the same, full rectangular shape, but the gtx has a notch taken out of the bottom left corner of the card/heatsink to make room for the power plug on the motherboard.

Do you have a digital camera? I'd love to see some pics of how it fits in there.

Well, after over 5 minutes of holding the soldering iron on it, and it still didnt come off, I have given up, the soldering iron I have might just not be hot enough, I dont know. anyway for other people who were confused as to where it did not fit, here is a pic:

OMG LOL LOL LOL OMFG I am happy LOL:

When I e-mailed back showing the card would not work I got back:

The best option I can offer at this point is to replace the system with an XPS M1710 with the 7900 card. Go ahead and send the 7900 back with the return airbil that was included. The new M1710 will be as close as possible to the configuration of your current system. You would be responsible for transferring the data.

Please advise if this is acceptable and if so would you like me to send it to the same address as the video card.

so basically all of us with gen2/m170s have to say that it doesn't work with our 3007WFP's and voila?

I doubt it, if a lot of people try to start doign this I am sure you will have to show proof of owning a 3007WFP, and I already has open tickets for going through a bunch of shit with dell trying to get them to do something about this. I called them 3 or 4 times and e-mailed several different people, so I doubt just anyone can do this. I am also sure it depends on who you end up talking to, I probably lucked out and got someone good.

Here are the specs of the replacement machine:

XPS M1710:
Intel® Core? Duo Processor T2500 (2MB Cache/2GHz/667MHz FSB)

Operating System (Office software not included):
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition

LCD Panel:
17 inch UltraSharp? Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife?

Memory:
1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM

Hard Drive:
100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive

Combo/DVD+RW Drives:
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability

Wireless Networking Cards:
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)

Video Card:
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce? Go 7900 GS

Primary Battery:
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Sound Options:

So looks like the video should be a bit of an upgrade and the wireless/7200 RPM drive will also be an upgrade.
