Travelmate 8200... How loud is fan noise?

Hi guys... Looks like some pretty mixed reviews on this model. In any case, I think I will give it a go since Costco has a very good return policy.

One think I'd like to hear more about before triggering an order is about the loudness of the fan noise when web surfing or doing relatively average work like wordprocessing, Powerpoint...

I returned the Ferrari 4005 because of fan noise all the time. Hope this is much better!

I agree. I just got one a week or so ago, and it doesn;t really bother me. If it comes on, it's proly because you are gaming and you aren't likely to hear it unless the volume is on mute.

The fan stays on most of the time (which could be annoying for someone), but it's quiet. It's not too loud even under heavy load, but definitely you will hear it then...

I have never heard the fan at all in mine.. The only reason I know it's working is because of the scalding burns on my mouse hand! (J/K, but it is a little uncomfortable at times).

Nope - never heard the fan in mine either, but the air it belches out of the side is incredibly hot, as is the underside after a short while.

I generally run the CPU at medium to completely cut out the noise, but it's noticable when I jack it up to max CPU to do stuff that needs the grunt. Doesn't bother me, I have worked next to a bunch of Proliant servers and they are like F-16s taking off, this is pretty nothing compared to it.
Love my 8204.
