Missed your 5 minute limit...but click on the little apple at the top left of the menu bar. Then "About this Mac" - that will show CPU speed and RAM. Click More info, then Serial-ATA from the list of components on the left. That will show Hard Drive info (Note - a 6GB drive will show about 55GB).

I woulda waited longer before telling him that.

Just check newegg for ram. You can usually get cheap ones there. As far as programs, there isn't any demo stuff that comes on a mac, maybe office or iwork. Those are the only ones I can think of. Other than that, you can delete programs you don't use. Garageband is a rather large program. Printer drivers take up a lot of space too. You can use a program called WhatSize, you can find this at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com.

Taken directly from the Apple MacBook website:

512MB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) on two SO-DIMMs; supports up to 2GB

You could possibly have a single stick of 512 or 2 sticks of 256. the MB supports dual channel so you would get batter performance from 2 matching sticks. I believe if you did as shazza suggested in the post above you would find this same info on your machine and anything else you might need to know, although I don’t have a MB in front of me to check if the info is this detailed.

I see another poster told you what kind of ram but what I'd do is:

1: Go to the Mac website, download, archive any user, and Service and Maintance Guides they may have on your unit.

2: Besides "Mac" itself for specs.. Check places like http://www.crucial.com/index.asp for what ram fits your machine... The reason is while the advice you get here may be correct.... It may not... (Translation, you could order the wrong stuff if the advice you gain here is wrong.)

3: Besides the advice offered above by previous posters.. Another option is to pull the ram, get the specs /id off the ram itself and then Google those id strings to see what kind of ram is already installed to may sure you buy the right type.

The reason I say all of this is above is anything that is said here is hearsay. You should double check info as much as possible.

Yes, because we love lying to people and laughing at them when they do the wrong thing and their computer blows up in their faces.

WeAreNotAlone's advice is good to double check info you get in forums. But the RAM question is one that is asked over and over again. Crucial will guide you to get the right RAM, and they guarantee it...but you may pay more. Newegg and other sites (like OWC) have good return/warranty policies. Just plug in the specs you need, and you'll come up with a selection of RAM that meets your needs...you can see from the customer comments what type of notebooks they are using it in. (and yes, they could be lying, but it's doubtful). And, if you have any doubt, call the vendor to make sure you are getting the right RAM!

I'm not saying not to "trust" people here I'm just saying to double check... There is allot of good advice here on the boards (and not so good) Most of the time it's from getting one model mixed up with another... You can have two computers within the same product range and they use totally differant types of ram.
