4538gz USB problem

I'm hoping that this isn't a stupid post, full of stupid questions. All of a sudden, I am having problems with my USB ports recognizing anything that is plugged into it, from my MP3 player to a brand new external DVD burner.

How do I fix this? My drivers are all up to date. I am REALLY frustrated right now and am at my wit's end on what to do.

HELP!!

try un-install and re-install (after reboot) ur USB controller (hardware-device manager)

Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I guess I'll have to buy a USB hub for my PC card slot

short of typical "re-install XP" statement, u might want to read this link

can u remember what were u performing on the laptop before "All of a sudden, I am having problems with my USB ports..."? if u have system restore on , u might want to check it.
