7405gx wireless takes forever to load

i don't know what i did. i bought a kodak camera and installed their software. i went on vacation and hooked up to their wireless network. somewhere around there my wireless card takes FOREVER to load. i have to let it sit for a minute or two before it loads. it seems to take an error saying windows firewall isn't on, then all of a sudden it pops on. any thoughts? i bought it in Jan 2005, so maybe it is time for driver upgrade? or could something be wrong?

anyone else have this trouble?

this is normal when windows Wireless Zero Configuration service is searching and hooking up to new wireless network. flushing DNS cache helps, disable WZC and use the wireless utility that comes with ur card helps.

after one year, it is recommendable, but if it ain't broke, dont fix it.

It sounds like a software/drivers problem. First I would run adware removal programs (Adaware/spybot come to mind) and an antivirus just to be sure it isnt' caused by malware. Then I would run the System Configuration (goto "Start" >>"Run" >> type "msconfig" and press "Enter"). Open the "Startup" tab and look at the programs that will start when the computer starts up. Uncheck anything that is not needed, click "Apply" and restart. That shoud hopefully make your start time faster.

I think that Windows Securtiy Center starts prior to start Windows Zero Configuration (Micorosofts Wireless program). So that is normal for that to pop up before wireless starts. You probally just haven't noticed/paid attention to it because there was no problem. FWIW, you can disable the Security Center (I do) by going into the System Configuration and instead of the "Startup" tab goto the "Services" tab and uncheck the box by the Security Center service, I think that it is actually called "Security Center" but I am not sure ( I am not on XP right now).

If those don't work, then try this:
Download Bootvis http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664 (ha, ha I just got the download link for you and noticed it is a 1337 version) and run it. The is a selection that you can choose to run that will restart you computer, and time everything that starts, this will show you what program, service, or driver is causing the long boot.

Last thing that I can think of is to reformat. Back up all of you important data, and reinstall your O/S.
