Anybody see the deal for 7/31 to 8/6 in the Summer 2006 coupon book?

HP Pavillion DV5237 15.4" Widescreen Notebook
Intel Core Duo, 2gb Memory, 120gb Hard drive, DVD +/- RW DL, Remote Control, Windows XP Media Center Edition

That's the exact text of the coupon.

I'm not sure if it's a T2300 or better. I wonder if the hard drive will be a 5400rpm drive. Otherwise it's looks pretty good.

Does anybody know where I can find benchmarks of the T2300 and compare them to say Pentium 4 2+ghz performance cpu's?

The hard drive will be a 5400rpm, because as far as i know, they don't have a 7200rpm 120gig drive.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html has some comparisons between a bunch of processors, but doesnt seem to have any intel moble chip data.

Actually the hard drive possibly could be a 4200rpm drive.
For that price it's probably a 4200 rpm drive. Still a pretty good deal as you can always sell the HD on Ebay and get a better drive.

oh yeah, forgot about that possibility (: they seem like such "old" technology i just ignore that they exist... kind of like these two 4.3gb hdd's i have sitting here... they don't really exist...

Finally found the specs. T2400 which is nicer than the T2300 which is the one that is found on laptops that are found on sale usually - 1.83ghz vs. 1.6ghz. Also, the 120gb hard drive is 5400rpm. And the memory runs at 667mhz instead of 533mhz. Even has a 6-in-1 type memory card reader, plus one button play for CD and DVD (plays without turning computer on). Brightview screen as well. And DVD burner. Though heavier than most people want a notebook though probably - weighs 6.5lbs.

Here's the specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

Looks like a GOOD deal to me... got to:http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigur...&model=EX203AV

and configure one... Almost $1,400

Only downside may be the GPU for "gamers"... For any other purpose it should be just FINE.. btw...

Wonder which GPU it is?

GPU info...

Maybe I should re-name the thread...Want to be able to "play" games with the settings turned UP?

Just bought a new laptop? Having problems? Games running so slow it looks like a slide show?

Within your "return" period?

Better read this before the return period is over!

My advice? Read thru the above GPU thread and if it appears the GPU will work for you BUY IT.

Hi, I have been looking for a laptop for work for the last 2 weeks, I have been focusing on dell and waiting for
http://www.gotapex.com/ to give me a good enough deal to purchase. I think most of the components are close....

but the 3 things that stand out to me are....

1.83 GHz Intel® Centrino® Duo mobile technology featuring Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2400

2048MB 667MHz DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

120GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive

in the class of under 1000 dollar nothebooks adding these 3 features pushes it over the top and my main choice to buy.

I have used both Dell's and HP's, the dells werte just a personal computer my sister had, but I used to work in a school system and they had all HP's.. I liked the HP's they seemed Rock solid.

So with these added features in mind, can anyone give me any insightfull compariosons as to Dell's vs HP's

Dell, Vs HP?... keep in mind that persons who own a HP will usually say HP, and persons that own a Dell say Dell. I was/am considering a Dell because of the GPU's options, but I've read (and had conversations) with allot of Dell owners that say getting a nice screen is a crap shoot with Dell. My advice? Read thru the below GPU thread as a starting point, then consider your needs. I'd re-think buying something that has the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 as it is a pretty WEAK GPU (GPU=video card) if you plan on "playing games" on your computer as seems a high-percentage of people here seem to focus on. Addtionally that GPU would be a poor choice for CAD drafting, a poor choice if you're planning on running Windows Vista with the Aero 3D interface. http://www.notebookforums.com/thread157799.html http://www.notebookforums.com/post2272149-10.html

i agree with WeAreNotAlone with the not getting integrated graphics. i have it on my 700m. i've played rise of nations: thrones and patriots on this laptop, and it runs perfectly fine, but with lower graphics settings than you probably could get with a dedicated card. also, i've run ansys and solidworks on this system and they run fine, though i havent dne anything too complex, so, it might crap out with more complex things...

Just using bugmenot to quickly bring this to attention: was at my local Costco today to see if they might have enough come sale time. Saw the dv5237cl and checked the My Computer and saw this

a locked partition of 13.8GB for recovery files (apologies for the crap camera photo). I couldn't open the partition at all.

Do you think this will happen to all of them, or just the display model in case a customer screws with the display model? Any idea if this space can be deleted, as any recovery stuff should come on a CD? I suppose you could always do a clean reformat/install and get it all back, but then you wouldn't get the nifty HP special features bundled in. Otherwise you don't get the full 120GB.
bugmenot... that is the HP recovery partition.... Running MCE I bet, eh?

BTW: a 120 gig is not 120 gig once you format it.
