malware blocker recommendation (or security suite)

Thread Starter
i have ewido anti-malware - the free version. i have used ad-aware, spybot and all the other freebies. i currently use avast antivirus (again, free).

i don't have time anymore to keep up to date on running 3 or 4 scans to get rid of malware. i am hoping to purchase an app that will do a good job blocking them. i know i will still have to run a scan every now and again, but i am hoping less often.

any recommendations? is there a security suite that would work? the new microsoft one seems like a good idea b/c i would think it would have less issues with XP since it is a microsoft product. should i just buy the full version of ewido?

thanks.

You know, what might work for you is nighttime maintenance. My system does a heck of a lot of work while I sleep. It does the power-consuming heavy-duty scans, as well as defrags. If you don't have the time to be running around after all these things, maybe consider taking some initial time to set up a system that will do most of it by itself.

Note that ewido and AVG are together now.

Hmm, I would say you would be OK with just adaware and spybot. If you're getting a lot of spyware and malicious code on your computer to the point where these programs aren't helping....You should really consider how you surf the net and be more careful :P

grongle hit it on the head, best way to take care of the issue is to automate the process.

also, spybot search and destroy has what they call immunize function where it does what it says, but you still have to periodically update the protection list.

@karizma - adaware and spybot work well, but ewido goes beyond and looks for trojans.

Oooh, very nice indeed. I've seen many trojans pop up from spyware searches using adaware and spybot when cleaning other's computers for them.

Me...I dont use any adaware or virus protection. Just firewall's and careful browsing /evil.
