I'd like to reiterate how important it is you watch your lappy! - Page 2

I hope you didn't have any personal information on the notebook. Credit card numbers, bank numbers, passwords, addresses, phone numbers, etc... That would be my first worry if someone stole my notebook. Who knows what else they could get from me.

OMG if someone stole my notebook DAMN i would kill myself, better yet put a GPS divice in it and go kill the person who stole it! Reminds me I think i need to get a lock for my sager for this upcomeing CPL.

Nah I usually don't save credit card info or my addy on my computer and I never save my passwords. Also everything I do is in english and I can safely say any chinese thief who steals my laptop definitely doesn't have the english skills to read anything I have written nor understand how to correctly work a computer besides play games already installed.

Yeah I've heard those GPS systems and saw one on "Current Affairs" a few years back. It was called guardian angel or something and you could locate your computer if it was stolen. But who'da thunk it your lappy is gonna get stolen!

The day I lost my lappy I circulated some flyers around computer hardware sellers in the city but I doubt any sort of bounty or something might work cause if they know it's stolen they'll take it and sell it themselves!

nothing :P I've already done what I can do. Rest is up to luck or chance.

So now I just think maybe this 2000 dollar loss will teach me to watch my stuff better and will keep me from losing something more valuable in the future? A lesson learned indeed!

This is something you can do, but it is very crazy.

Since you are an American citizen, you have a very good chance of blowing this to extraordinary proportions. Go to your local US Embassy and declare some random statement like "Plans for secret american ???? stolen by thief" or the like, and watch the problem exacerbate.

Eventually the military will start interrogating possible suspects and find that person, then raid his/her house and retrieve your notebook. You will probably get it back after they make a copy of your hd and install some kind of keylogger on it.

At the second-to-last day of last school year a friend of mine who lived on the same floor as I (at the dorm) had his Sony VIAO stolen when he was in the process of moving out. Becuase of people moving out, secuity doors were left unlocked to ease moving out.

Well, it was really his fault for leaving his door open, but just that morning he unlocked his laptop lock and later that day it was stolen.

Well, anyways, lesson is - TRUST NO ONE!!

is it to stupid to ask just how those locks work? if they are reasonable effective? and if the 4780 have them as a standard feature? I don't remeber seeing it...

They have it, as every laptop now a days does. It's just a little hole where you push through a wire that prevents someone from just taking your laptop. But you gotta secure it to something.

You mean, what if they take the big heavy desk that belongs to the college and try to remove it from the dorm?

Just a random thought.

You were boosted at a public place where there are a lot of folks hanging around.

Are any of the regulars there MISSING since this happened?

Find the missing person and you might just find your lappy.

Again, just a random thought.

I'm shure that the local cops might just find him and get your 4760/4780 if the price is right.

As the old saying goes Money talks and BS walks.

okay, so my laptop wasn't stolen. but my favorite logitec mouse was lifted about a week ago. i was devistated enough by that, i can't imagine what it would be like to have such a thing as my sager stolen [especially since i put up my hard-earned money for it and I have no where near enough dough to buy a replacement. having been recently without my laptop, i know what you feel like, man.

FuFu, here how I'm going to help you. I'm going to start a Save the Lappy fund just for you. If I can get a dollar from every member or person who uses notebookfurms, I think we'll just about make the cut.

Sorry that someone took you lappy. You know, it maybe someone you know that took it. Someone you talk to everyday, and they got your lappy. I say, go to all your friends that hang out where your lappy was taken and beat the SH*@ out of them. That way you know you got the right person.

My wife got my 8890 for me and she's not even allowed to touch it (my lappy that is).

I'm going to a LAN party with my lappy this weekend and if anyone looks at it wrong, I'm kicking A**. Ok, I have stop now I'm getting mad just thinking about someone taking my 8890.

Good luck in getting a new one.
