Inspiron 8600 battery issues

Hi, I have a two years old Inspiron 8600 with the original battery. The battery is starting to act weird. Estimation time shown for the battery is about four hours, but after two hours the computer suspends like if the battery had reached a critical level. Pressing the button of the battery when it's charged shows all lights on. Holding it for some seconds shows also that all cells are active. Reading ACPI data from the battery show a charge level only a bit lower that the original level. Can this be fixed with some calibration procedure or is a sign of the battery dying?

Thanks in advance.

I think that's normal for a 2 years old battery. My 8600 after 1 year went in suspend mode with the battery still reporting 1 hour left autonomy..

2 Hours for a battery thats 2 years old is normal if not fantastic. Generally speaking the windows power manager only gives you a base estimation of battery life based on usage which varies greatly on a PentiumM based system because of the fluctuating cpu power. A good way to know how much battery life your getting is to do something CPU intensive like put on a dvd and then read the battery estimation which will drop from the initial 4 hours to more realistically 1-2 hours.

OK, nothing to worry about then, thanks for your answers. With a DVD it shown an estimation of 1h 45m and lasted 1h 8m. Time to get a new battery.
