Safely Remove Hardware Icon

I have a question a bout swapping out the secondary bay drives. Shouldn't there be a Safely Remove Hardware Icon for swapping out the drives. My friend has a laptop (not a Sager) and it does. This (my new 5660) is my first laptop, so if there is suppose to be an icon there, how do I get it?

Thanks in advance.

The only time I've seen that icon is when I've got a card in the PCMCIA slot. As a matter of paranoia, I always turn my system off to change any hardware.

Nevermind, my friends laptop drives are SCSI, like the PCMCIA slot. And I guess these drives are not. Looks like the only way I got is reboot and/or swap it then refresh in Device Manager.

I don't know if the drives are hot swappable or not... If they are, then you can remove them while the laptop is on. If they aren't, then you need to turn it off in order to remove it. Most modular bays on laptops are hot swappable, though, so I assume those on the 5660 are. Best of luck to you!

Hot-Swappable

I just lift the laptop, pull out the battery and stik in the FDD and it is detected by WIN-xpPRO immediately. No problems there...

I guess they are hot swappable...

PC Torque said somewhere that they are - thats why I tried and it works.

But I am also quite paranoid - I do a shutdown before doing this op nowadays and I plan it out so that I know exactly when I need the FDD and when I need the battery so that there are no shutdowns and startups dedicated to this operation.
