It's just a sneak peek but the future looks very promising!!!

AMD should beware.

Haven't read the article yet, but the FX-60 will be (is) old news by the time Merom is out...so not too sure how exciting that is

I'm sure Merom will be great, and I imagine AMD will counter, then Intel, then AMD...the consumer wins as long as we don't try to keep up with the latest greatest.

and this is on top of AMD deciding to stick w/ 512k caches (per core) in stead of 1MB this week. odd bc, the Pentium M arhitecture hasn't changed much since the original debut. much of the advancements have come in the way of a smaller manufacturing process, adding cache, and working the 2 cores onto 1 die. so yeh, i have no clue why AMD isn't playing the cache game too.

You are comparing very very old technology with very very new technology. Ofcourse the results are so.

Technically the Pentium M has older technology than the AMD as the Pentium M's foundation is the Pentium III which is, what, five years old or so?

I think the reason why it wipes the floor is because "As we mentioned, these tests were performed on systems built and set up by Intel.".... that was taken directly from the article.... good one.

Merom and conroe look very good for the future. And remember something, the FX 60 dual core is very expensive and it is probably one of the first three "champion processors" of AMD, while Merom and Conroe are just the standard for INTEL. Hell, they even sell the FX 60 dual core as the fastest gaming processor that has ever existed!!!
They USED to sell the FX-60 as the fastest...it's already been replaced by the FX-62 and a number of processors based on the AMD2 CPU...

Again, it's good news the Intel chips are so good - no problem with that.

Hi,

First, the FX-60 is not "very old technology". It is pretty new in fact. And even overclocked it is getting beaten pretty good by a lower clocked stock "Conroe" (Merom is the mobile Conroe).

Second, the "intel boxes" FUD has already been debunked by more than one tester, who examined the boxes and setups and concluded that, if anything, the setups handicapped Conroe a bit by not pairing it with the new chipsets it will have on release. Also, conroe has been tested on non-intel setups and performed almost exactly the same.

The ball is squarely in AMDs court. One gets the feeling that they underestimated Intel, and especially the Intel Israel group.
