Well the title says it all. What type of wireless routers you guys using. Are there any geared for gaming? Need some recommendations here! Never dealt with wireless!

Ive read alot of reviews and it seems to come down to the linksys wtr54g and the 54mbps dlink (seeing as 54mbps G is the best our internal wireless supports). Both are supposed to have very good software and siginal strength, but aparently the linksys' router has an issue thats only been addressed by 3rd party firmware (the router pings and keeps logs of all the last ip's youve connected to in the past X period of time, and when you use torrent p2p the router bogs its self down pinging the thousands of peers youve recently been connected too.)

I dont know how the mini versions perform, I woudl like to know though, my desk is small.

I have 3 D-Link routers, 2 wireless and 1 wired and I have continued to have problems of varying degree with all 3.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Linksys WRT54GL and it has been a completely different experience from all 3 D-Link routers. It's worked flawlessly from day one and hasn't given me one spot of trouble, and has provided much better wireless performance.

I wouldn't suggest buying a WRT54G anymore, as they've recently gone away from using Linux as the operating system, and moved to a much worse proprietary OS, which is the reason I bought the WRT54GL (L = Linux).

Well i have a cheap d-link di-524 which is a wireless g router and i have never had problems with it. i always have a <50 ping when i game, so i would definitely recommend a d-link. i would try a cheaper one first and see what pings you get, because i got this router for $20 after a rebate, and its almost as fast as a wired connection.

Ive been searching online for info, not much info to be found. But alot of people recommend the linksys WRT54GL and also the belkin F5d8230.

Here is a link to the belkin

I have the Belkin Pre-N router. Amazing tho its needs to be reset at least once a week tho to keep it solid. Anyhow I barely get any dropped connections and from 100 feet it still goes strong. You may also want to google TCP optimizer and download it. Install it and it should help speed up yout throughput regardless of what router you get. GOOD LUCK!

Just the opposite with me, I had a linksys and had alot of problems...mostly loss of connection in games.

Got a d-link 624 and problem solved. No ports to mess with or wierd settings to deal with. I am on my second D-link only because I had to have the DGL-4300 gaming router. It works flawlessly for gaming even with the family using their wireless comps at the same time.

Me and my buds bought a d-link G604T wireless router and we all had problems like not keeping the adsl & wireless settings to low signal. Ive now got a Netgear DG834T wireless router and its the best, high signal throughput and low pings on games and best of all been on for over a month now and not needed a reset

Using the linksys wrt54g like some of the others. I have another laptop using a pcmia wireliess card and my e1705 using the intergrated wireless card. The pcmia card picks up signal ok, but sometimes drops it, but the lynksis router works perfectly with my e1705. Ive been playing cs:s, hl2dm, cod, and wow without any lag problems whatsoever. Downloading and webbrowsing is fast. Its as if the limiting factor in my internet connection would be my ip more so than my router or laptop card. Pretty reliable router i would reccomend.

I use the Linksys WRT54GL which is the WRT54G version 4. The only difference is that I use the Open Source firmware which turns your $40 router into a $400 router with loads of features that you are not going to get from linksys out of the box.

Check it out.

www.dd-wrt.com

The ammount of information you can monitor on your router, and the different security options. It's simply amazing the things you can do with this replacement firmware.

It does not work on all Linksys WRT models, so check their page before you attempt to flash the firmware on to your router.

I would not recomend D-Link to anyone. I have had several of their routers and have had nothing but problems, back when i used their wired routers, i would lose my connection and the router would "reset" (thats what i called it), at random intervals. Now that i have a the DL-624 sitting 20 feet away from it with my e1705 which has a 3945 wireless card in it, i get 1 bar of connectivity, and my parents computer upstairs with a 108mbps wireless card in it, gets limited to none. Overall, i am also in the market for a new gaming wireless router, and looking for something probably with MIMO technology.

Later on this week, i will be purchasing this wireless router. ZyXEL X-550 ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833181218 ... I will review shortly after getting it with a periodical update about the wireless performance over time. You can look for the review in my e1705 review i'll be working on this week as well. I'll be sure to link it here when it is finished, but overall, this router has notihng but great reviews already.

Here's a link for a review of a bunch of wirless routers and their cards. They run through actual tests and it will at least give you an idea of what you're looking for. There may also be other articles available. Look around. I find the resutls this site does to be fairly true.

Like another poster have a Belkin pre-N. Although I've had it for some time I would no longer buy it. Look at the last issue of PCMag for an interesting article on throughput. The new Linksys is much faster. However, does your new 'puter have a built-in adapter that can access these routers at their MIMO speed? Many of the new ones require you to match adapter and router. This is doubly important if you do not have a PCMCIA slot. So, you will likely be better off with a Linksys Linux based router.

Linksys WRT54GL FTW!!! Recommend them to all my customers and rarely hear a complaint that isn't user error. Cheap, reliable, and tons of support for it. Just read the feedback on NewEgg, 467 opinions available to read for all the ups and downs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRa...size=100&Page= Last I recall, the WRT54G Series routers have out sold any other home wireless solution on the market too!

I like Netgear "G" router.

Never had any problems and very easy to set up.

Well after further research, the belkin seems to keep having the same recurring problem, many people report they have to reset theirs all the time. So no more belkin. I did see a bunch of N series routers out today, but I think you have to have a comparable Mimo N card to take advantage of the new higher speed. Looks like I am going to go with the linksys GL. Went to bestbuy but they did not have it, time to order from new egg! Guys, thanks for the help!

My Linksys WRT54G Version 5 sometimes drops the signal when playing BF2. It's damn annoying because the connection drops but comes right back when i reconnect.

Belkins Pre-N has great range.

Do a bit of hunting on google and you can find very inclusive reviews which compare side by side lots (if not all) the routers in a particular field, for instance 802.11G routers.

They'll compare the siginal strength, throughput, price, and give you a good run down on each routers software/firmware.
