Toshiba SD-6472 DVD-Burning Problems

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm having some issues with my Toshiba SD-R6472 DVD drive. Driver details are as follows:
Quote:
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 7/1/2001
Driver Verison: 5.1.2535.0
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Publisher

I'd been backing up files to .img and .iso format, but am unable to write them back to disk.

My most recent test was with Nero Express, the software that came with my laptop. I would have the laptop burn the images to disk through Nero, only to have the Disk-At-Once aspect fail, as seen here:

I borrowed a friends copy of Nero Burning Rom 7, and tried again, thinking it was the software. To test the drive before thinking it's the software, I created 3-4 audio CD's, all of which burned perfectly fine.

I attempted to burn the .ISO's again, only this time, during verification of the data on this disk, Nero seemed to have frozen or locked up. This verification error has happened before:

I was considering looking around Toshiba's website for a firmware upgrade, but I was confused by Toshiba's website support, or lack thereof.

I've been using Memorex's DVD+R (16x, 4.7GB, 120min Video) disks, and I'm certain they've worked in the past.

Any ideas? Thanks.

SUspect that it is a media/firmware incompatability. Toshibas have a bad habit of seeming to write and then don't the media can't be read anywhere - even in the drive that wrote it. The previous media were RITECK, I believe.

G, do you have any links that are reliable that could update my firmware? I don't want to go to www.tomdickandharrysdriverpage.com and get the required update.

And like I said above, navigating Toshiba's support site seems hopeless.

Appreciate it,
Boogie

The European "Offical" Toshiba Site for this device's drivers can be found here: http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storag...ptype=DVDRECSL

The driversdon't appears to have been updated too much. I'd stick with 8x media rather than 16x for most cases because of compatability issues (It's a real crap shoot using the 16x media with laptop DVD writers).

Crap, which do you think I have? The TU or TR version?

Thanks for the info on the 8x disks; can't imagine why I had issues with 16x disks.

I'd be real interested to seewhat the displays are for the new media, If you can get those. I suspect that you will see a difference at the lower end of the specificiations.

Also click on the "Drive capabilites on this Disc" for both media and present those and I'll be happy to evaluate the displays and let you know what I think.

Semi-Good News

I found a way to bypass the ISO to Disk burning problems I've been having.

For game ISOs, I've had to extract the data from the ISO/BIN/IMG file and place them in a new folder and burn via Data DVD.

For movie ISOs, I've had to extract the data from the ISO/BIN/IMG file and place them in a new folder and burn via Movie DVD.

I'll get those screen caps for you a little later, G. I'm starting to think that MAYBE the 3 iso/bin/img files I had were stubborn.
