I can get substantial discounts on either of these two machines. Heat, reliability, and build quality are whats most important to me. Followed by weight and portability. Least important would be video performance and raw processing power (to a point).

Why get the XPS M1210 if you are not worried about video performance? That is its only real quality that sets it apart. IBM makes really good computers, but you pay for them as well..

It depends on what you need. The x60s will be thinner, lighter, and have better build quality. It doesn't have a lot of multimedia features...like it doesn't have a built in optical drive. It's more of a tough business traveler. The m1210 is thicker and heavier, but includes an optical drive, media card reader, better video card option, built in camera, etc.

X60s, all the way

Borgus, by substantial deals, do you mean personal connections?
Because these are THE two laptops I've been pouring over the past couple of days.
I understand the awkwardness of extending personal benefits to strangers over the internet, but I would give my heartfelt appreciations if you could hook me up with any specific dealers you have in mind.

On-topic, X60s -- countless hours of battery life and featherweight.
