6400 / e1505 : X1300 or X1400?

Just thinking of buying a 6400 and want to know if getting a X1300 or X1400 will increase the fan noise? Do they have their own fans, and how often are they on? Most of the reviews I've seen say it's mostly silent , but they tend to be reviews of the integrated graphics machine.

Does choice of card affect the battery life? Can I still get over 4 hours if I get an X1400 and just use desktop apps?

It's £70 to upgrade from the X1300 to the X1400 - any views on if it's worth it?

ok.

1) x1400 > x1300 by ALOT in terms of capabilities. but that's not saying much since the X1400 is sub-par itself... [Dell screwed up, should've allowed for a X1600 or Nvidia 7800, or at least a 6800 Go)
2) No, these vid cards don't ahve their own fans. the gfx solution is located rite next to the main fan, and its thermal unit merely connects the vid card to the original fan.
3) yes, with X1400, u can still get 4hours on desktop apps. powerplay enabled ATI cards save power when they are not required (or so it should...)
4) and yes, get the X1400, its worth the money. speciallly if ur considering upping to Windows Vista

hope helps.

The difference in terms of heat and power consumption is negligible. If you're doing any 3D at all, you'll most likely want to get the X1400.

Thanks for the answers - very helpful!

Anyone disagree? Please post.

Have found some benchmarks which seem to say that (in terms of 3DMark scores) the X1400 is about 33% better than the X1300. It's a boost but not like it's going to double your framerates. Not sure I'd really notice the difference.
