Hey guys, well Ive just been reading up on some old posts about people formating there dv8000 to get rid off that shitty HP software, and Ive had some trouble.. first one of my mistakes is that I didnt back any old drivers up up ... It never even crossed my mind, but its to late now cause its all gone!! not a problem I thought Ill just download them off HP's site and that was no problem, alot of really good information in those older posts.. anyway.. this is where it gets ultra fustrating.. after I formated I dumped my drivers onto the laptop through my USB storage device, and I proceeded to install SP2, no worries.. now I install the normal HP drivers and they install ok, the different devices are located but it just doesnt get them going.. if that makes sense, as if the drivers didnt do squat but they are sitting in my c drive under SWSetup, .. and same with my video card drivers .. comes up with an error about not being able to find and video device or something... my friend suggested it may be wrong chipset drivers but because Im not a network engineer like he is, its hard for me to know what the problem comes down too.. So if any of you guys have any of the same problems it could you please send a few tips my way!! Im nearly ready to send it out the window...

Cheers guys,
Nick

The files being on the usb at one point shouldn't make a
difference (unless they were corrupted)

I installed the OS, then copied the files over the the C:SwSetup folder.... I say "copied" as I copied the files there, then I copied them over to a folder I made in the root C:\\Temp..... running the setup from that folder.
(You could name that folder C:/Install... or whatever...)

There is a certain sequence in installing the files, some need to be installed before others. (I've posted it before, can't find it right now, otherwise I'd link to it)

On the HP site it should say if a file needs another file to have it install properly.

Of course when installing... disconnect from the internet... disable .shutdown everything running in the background... scan the files for virus after download, after they've been extracted, but before they've been run. Then sutdown your virus programs during installs... that will mess with stuff..

PS: If any of this info is helpful, once logged in click the add to WeAreNotAlone's Reptution icon located on the left hand side under my user name. Here in the past day or so someone (I've got a good idea) has given me some negative reps... (Satan is proud of them)
