Temp Review

Well I havent gotten a review up yet but so far I am VERY dissatisfied. I am having USB issues, Graphic Issues, and Power issues. Not to mention I noticed a large blemish in the paint job recently. Im not very impressed wit hthe loudness of the speakers. I did however not notice a washout issue of any kind and did not receive any dead pixels. So far the computer has even managed to embarass me. While I was showing it off to my friends the screen totally FUC*ED UP and they all laughed at how I speant 5k$ for a piece of ****. As far as tech support, its 50 50. I had one woman trying to help my issue and she had me installing the 7.93 Nvidia desktop drivers, then put me on hold and I got disconnected, then when I got back on the phone with a guy he seemed very knowledable and the problem was solved, for a short time and came back. As far as th4e USB goes... It turns on and off as it pleases.... My 3dMark 2003 was dissappointing seeing as i scored a 2500 is not bad but the fact that everygame besides wings of fury ran at 9 fps was pissing me off. The rubber feet are a horrible issue... The heat form the computer mealts them and thus they fall of constantly. Also whenever I come out of stand by all the text is blurred and multi colored. My wireless is acceptable and I enjoy it. If someone could send me the instructions on switching the Grey and Black wires that would be great. The USB placement is horrible... On the right side of the laptop.... Means it interferes with the mouse... If I could use one... But I cant because It shorts out every 2 minutes due to the USB issue. It came well packaged, but what I found out is you basically void your warranty by throwing away the box seeing as they will not accept a computer for repair or refund unless in the origional container. Shipping was very unorganized. AW used home delivery when I specifically stated it was being delivered to an office and thus resulted in 9 days of hell. The driver realized an opportunity to noit have to do **** and "delivered" at times up to 8 o clock at night. But he wasnt attmepting to deliver he just said he was because he knew it was closed and would save him some work but he was caught in the act because I was there all night at one point including the times he said he was delviering and they gopt a new driver for my package. The Aw forums are riddled with problems... Including one forum saying that Star Wars KOTR will NOT work on any system and there is nothing they cna do about it. Its just the programing.... This is not my official review, its intended to hold over untill my real one...so far my computer will NOT play MOHAA but will play Medal of Honor Breakthrough and Spearhead... Jus8t not the origional. I do not know what ppl are talking about ehrn they talk about the Fn and Ctrl key swap... Anybody with a laptop is used to that by now seeing as its on every laptop I'v ever seen... Except Dell I think. But theyre Fuc*ed up anyways.

But I'm probably wrong...

Could someone PLEASE EXLPAIN WTF THIS IS?!

LOL

I do not have major heating issues with the laptop but one thing is annoying is that since its so hot aI have to shut itdown to put in my laptop case rather than standby otherwise it can melt it....I am dissappointed that Dell offers the ATI 9700 in their XPS yet AW is lagging behind... Thats troubling... Don't take this review seriously because I am angered right now and a better review will come soon.

That's somewhat disheartening. I'm sorry you're having troubles. I wonder if some of the glitches you're experiencing are due to the shipping method?

KOTOR is working fine for me, (just got off Taris last night.) Sorry you have so many issues. Sounds like a lemon to me, I have never had any issues like the ones your listing.

And I love the US the right, I hate them on the left since I have to wrap the mouse cable around the back of my old laptop.

You should probably send that sucker back to them and get them to fix it. I mean paint blemishes? Thats almost unheard of on these systems!

I might be missing something here but why would that woman have you install Nvidia drivers if your laptop has a ATI graphic module??

There are probably more people that get thier AW laptops without any problems then there are people that receive them with but even still... AW says they give every laptop a 200 point quality control check and if anything fails then it gets fixed before shipping. And the way AW describes the handling, assembly, and testing in the "Phases" you would think every laptop would arrive in perfect operating condition. Oh wait.... I forgot there is shipping involved .

Hope you get everything sorted out quickly!

Don't ask me why but thats what she pointed me to download off the sight and I'm like "Uh no".... They say paint issues came form shipping... Even though my laptop was in 2 boxes and there was plastic around the entire thing...

It's probably temperature, which is what I was trying to suggest earlier. If they use some kind of consignment shipping, which your previous posts seemed to indicate, your package might have been kept in a very cold garage, etc. Repeated strong fluxuations in temperature could explain both a number of your technical problems as well as the paint peeling or chipping.

I look at the AW forums often, most of the people having gaming issues seem to be noobs. They don't remember how hard it was to get games running right in the old days.

You guys remember getting the original Dark Forces running? Can you say "boot disk" Gotta love the old DOS4GW!
yes! DOS4GW!

oh the agony.

I think that's correct, they're probably not liable for anything that happens during shipping. However, FedEx is. It's very possible that you could have the monetary situation resolved by contacting FedEx's insurance department. Before you went that route, however, I'd contact Alienware and try to get one of the techs there to agree with you that the delivery method was probably the cause.

OMG, remember when you had to select your sound card by selecting the memory address, irq, dma and all that?

You'd be wasting your time. They're not the liable party, which I believe they've stated. It's also the responsbility of the consignee in delivery disputes to issue the complaint since they're received the damaged goods.

That SUCKED, espically if it was anything other than 220 IRQ5 DMA 3! Then your pulling your case apart and changing jumpers!
