XPS M1710 replacement for XPS gen 2 - Page 2

Well I received the laptop!, and as I thought, no go with the 3007WFP at the full resolution, however, it does not have the same issue with the video bios, everything is detected correctly, and the 3007WFP does work at the lower resolution from the BIOS/linux/etc. so I guess it is a compromise, I dont like the keyboard on the M1710 as much as the one on my XPS gen 2, however it is still good, the LCD on it is awesome though, my XPS gen 2 had an LG, the M1710 also came with an LG, but it seems brighter, and also absolutely 0 light leakage, my XPS gen 2 has a little but this thing is nadda in the light leakage department, the screen looks awesome.

Also, there is no refurm sticker anywhere on the machine, so I am not sure if they sent me a new one or not, visually it seems flawless, if it was new right from the factory. Ive bought a refurb before and it had a big sticker on the bottom of the machine.

was there a clear static cover over the bezel of the laptop that you had to remove? That's usually a good indicator of whether it is new or a refurb.

...Of course the M1710 line has not been out long so refurbs are probably still in short supply.

I dont know if I would call it static, but there is clear plastic with a little orange ripcord like thingy on the back of the LCD, it also came in a clear bag when I took it out of the box.

Well finally got rid of the stupid media direct crap so I could mirror my old drive on to the new one, one thing I thought was weird is the M1710 says MXG061 when it is booting, I would have figured it would say M1710, like my XPS GEN 2 says XPS GEN 2...
